    The $3 Wilton find

Im not sure what kind of base this little vise would have had, but its a USA made Wilton 121070 with removable jaws. Everything is nice and straight and I just snapped it up for $3 via my local poultry association's "Swap Day". I want to do a nice clean-up and resto if I can find the proper base.

Ring Pliers: Craftsman Pro = rebranded Channellock

After doing a bit of searching around for ring pliers, I discovered quite by accident that Craftsman Pro retaining ring pliers (large) are identical to Channellock 927 retaining ring pliers. In my situation, the Channellock pliers were actually cheaper (Menards) vs the Craftsman Pro pair...

What is the best way to care for Snap-on hard handles?

As a sort of "new career" gift, I'm getting some hard handled goodness. I was wondering what is the best way to keep the handles from fading. I've seen orange and yellow handles that look like they've been to hell and back. What is the best way to clean the handles and how can I keep them from...

CL: "Box is at least 100 years old, or older."

So I was stumbling through CL looking for tool boxes when I stumbled across this: Uh... "at least 100 years old, or older". I understand a lot of folks in Upper Arlington have more money than sense, but come on! The original CL ad: http://columbus.craigslist.org/atq/2931113177.html

    Color coordinating Snap-on by size?

I've decided to take the plunge and start building a quality set of Snappy ratchets to go along with my SK SuperKrome obsession. In the process of planning this out, I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to color coordinate the hard handled ones. Maybe something like this: Yellow for...

Saved big money at Menards today...

I don't know if every store is having this or not, but my "local" Menards (Chillicothe, OH) is having a crazy sale on screws, bolts, nuts, etc. I'm not sure if they're switching to a new supplier or what, but it certainly worked out for me. I'll try to upload pictures tomorrow (not home at the...

Stanley & Walmart is attacking Channellock

Oh, the horror! So I went into Walmart today with my better half to buy some cat food and a new collar for her cat. Being somewhat bored (and preferring not to shop at Walmart) I took a stroll through the tool section. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but I stumbled across the...

    #600 - Magnetizing your Stickers

The story begins many years ago - thanks to a promo, my Dad received a rather interesting sticker from PB Blaster along with a couple of cans he had bought for using around the garage/farm. The sticker had a dog chewing on a PB Blaster can, with the simple phrase "Junkyard Dog Ugly! But it...

Sears price match fiasco - seriously?

I went to Sears to pick up a top box that was on sale. The Sears representative tries pulling up the item, but can't find it on the computers. However, they have the exact same box in a different color. A little more searching revealed both boxes independently on both Sears and Kmart's website...

Cheapie fixer-upper Craftsman (19 drawer roller) - Oxnard, CA

Needs quite a bit of work, but when I stumbled across it (pickup only) I kicked myself for living on the wrong damned coast. So far, it can be had for less than a $10 bill. NOTE: It's not my auction, and I placed it in the tool discussion section because I thought the box was interesting.

    Interesting Craftsman / Waterloo connection

So I picked up one of the 14" black plastic Craftsman toolboxes from Sears today for use in one of my vehicles, and inside it, I found one of the typical Craftsman product research surveys. I didn't notice until after buying the box that the box itself was actually made in Mexico, but what I...

    Channellock recomends Plasti-Dip for rehandling

So a couple of days ago, I sent Channellock the following message via the contact form on their website: A couple of days later (after the weekend had passed) I received the following response: So there you have it... Blue Plasti-Dip is the choice of Channellock for re-gripping old tools.

Who makes an affordable Dovetail jig?

I'm looking for an affordable dovetail jig for a router I got recently. I don't care if it's new or old, it just needs to work well and be cost efficient. Who makes a decent one (past or present)?

Boxtops for Education in YOUR garage?

If you have any of the "Boxtops for Education", I need them for a friend whom has a relative with autism. They're trying to collect enough for his school to be able to purchase augmentative learning tools. You can find participating products here...

Question: How do you machine a square hole? (get ready to laugh at me)

Suppose I needed to machine a square hole or a slot of a given length in a piece of 1/2" steel plate using an average milling machine / knee mill. How would I go about doing that? Is it even possible? :dunno: I did some machining in high school, but it was using a Sherline mini-mill on plastic...

My $15 servicing cart. It's almost unbelievable.

So the wifey-to-be wanted to go shopping on the day after Christmas. I agreed, mainly because it would allow me to pay a visit to Sears and check out their sales as well. Long story short, I picked up most of the standard wrenches I'm in dire need of for The Amazing Workshop (just need a few...
