    Help insulating unvented roof?

If there is no space for a soffit vent then you need to look at intakes vents located at the bottom of the roof. Something like this: http://www.airvent.com/homeowner/products/productImages/staticVents-slMetal.jpg I just had a few installed on my garage to provide intake as my garage does not...

Flooring Woes - How to fix?

Howdy: I'm about two months into my garage renovation. I've been doing it off and on as time permits. However, I'm finally getting to the point of insulating, drywalling, painting, and flooring. I would like to do an epoxy floor, but I have a 35+ year sealed concrete floor with a ton of issues...

Fast Start, Bright, 4-pin 32W CFLs?

This should help you: http://www.1000bulbs.com/category/32-watt-4-pin-gx24q3-plug-in-compact-fluorescents/ However, I would caution from running 32 watt bulbs unless the fixture is rated for it. A lot of people check the ballast, but fail to check the fixture. It may not be able to deal with...

Ultimate Work Light with heavy duty reel

Speed-Racer did you buy it from Tool Source for $123.95? $123.95 doesn't exactly scream "deal" to me, but then again I haven't thoroughly researched light reels yet.

    Plumbing forum

The idea was brought up in March. See here: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58768 I also think it would be a great idea. I had to do quite a bit of searching when I was working on my plumbing project.

    HOT DEAL Index!!

There is no markup. You will be paying the same price as if you are a member. Usually items are marked up 10% at the register when shopping with a guest pass. However this is not the case since this is an open house.

Wall mount shop vac - $19 at Home Depot

My local HD (well the one nearest me) had a place for them on the floor, but it was empty. The sign even had the yellow clearance tag with the $19 price. I decided to roll the dice and asked them to check inventory. They happened to have six on the top shelf still wrapped up on the pallet! I...

    Joist Weight Concerns

I wanted to update everyone on the project. After sharing the ideas from this thread and discussing the structural aspects with the engineer we came up with a plan. I married additional 2x10 joists to the existing joists with bolts and nuts. I then installed 3 rows of 2x10 blocking to prevent...

Holmes on Homes - My Take

So basically the wall was built correct, but somehow it was built on the city's easement? Sounds like someone misread the plans or perhaps the city didn't mark the easement very well.

    Joist Weight Concerns

I looked at possibly adding more joists and that is going to be a lot of work. The existing joists are directly connected to the roof rafters. There is no place that I can see where I can connect new joists.

    Joist Weight Concerns

Morning: I am located in Texas and as previously posted the house was built in the early 1970s. You can't stand up as the ceiling is only about 5ft high at its highest point. It's more of a giant crawl space than anything else. It does have enough space for me to use plastic storage containers.

    Joist Weight Concerns

All the joists run one way (parallel to the garage doors). Are you saying I should add one perpendicular in the middle? If so that is going to be one big modification to the structure.

    Joist Weight Concerns

Ceiling joists are on 24" centers. The house was built in the early 1970s so it should be old growth lumbar. I can't find any stamping on the wood nor do I know the species. The joists are just under 20 ft long. I'm not too worried...yet. :) I've visited the above mentioned site before for...

    Joist Weight Concerns

Evening: I'm finally tackling my garage attic project. However, I have one concern in the back of my mind that is nagging me. I have a 20x22 ft garage built with 2x10 for the joists (24 in center). The outside walls are 2x4s on 16 in centers, but the wall opposite of the garage doors is 2x4s on...

    Weekend cleanup and other fun!

First impressions are everything with it comes to trade-ins. Once you bring it up with the sales person they will take a look at it. If it is all dirty and dinged up they will think it has been abused and possibly offer a lower price. A nice clean car that looks well cared for will usually...
