    Astro Pneumatic 1/4 Impact

Seems like this is a good spot for a 12v lithium ion impact. Bosch, Makita, etc. A couple of advantages: No hose to drag around, and most of these little impacts have an LED on the front, which can be pretty useful in dark spots (under a dash, etc). They're pretty small, and very light. My...

Someone needs to double-tap this thread. It keeps coming back from the dead... Where's Woody Harrelson when you need him?

Had a chat with Craftsman higher-ups

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Remember, when a company goes public, their obligation is to the shareholders, not the customers. That might seem short-sighted (it is) and counter intuitive, but the obligation of management is to maximize returns for its shareholders. Sometimes, the best...

Anyone else find Wera Kraftform tips soft?

My bit driver has lasted pretty well. I can't complain. The handles work for my hands, but I guess that's a matter of preference. If I had to do it again, though, I'd probably go with Felo or Wiha.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Not quick release, but the Williams USA roundheads (B-52 and S-52) are 72 teeth, USA-stamped, and smooth as butter. Otherwise, the Craftsman Premiums are really nice (84-tooth, USA). Edited to correct: Premiums are not quick release. I guess I knew that, but got it jumbled in my head with the...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Those are basically Craftsman RPs. Any RP repair kit should work in them if the lube doesn't do the job. Though, I'll be honest with you, the Taiwanese Kobalts now at your local Lowes are twice the ratchet you have there. Hate to say it, but if you did a warranty replace, it would be an upgrade.

    wera zyklop ratchet review

That thing has always looked clunky and gimmicky to me. And the price seems absurd for a Taiwanese ratchet...I like my Wera bit driver enough, but I think I'll pass on the rest of the stuff.

Who makes metric 12 point sockets for 1/4"dr?

Blackhawk is a division of Proto, and they make 12-point 1/4 inch sockets. I doubt this is as rare as you seem to think, but here's the link. Google works wonder, btw...

    is it just me.... ????

A quick way to tell is that the Taiwan stuff's part numbers is only numbers. The USA stuff is a mix of letters and numbers.

    Confusing Matco Files

These things can change pretty quickly but the Husky set I bought at HD a few months ago was definitely Colombia, not ChiCom. The Nicholson sets I saw at HD were Brazil, not Mexico.

    Confusing Matco Files

I guess Nicholson are Brazil now (?) And I noticed the Husky sets at HD are Colombia. Can't think of any USA files. I don't generally have a good impression of Indian tools, but India, Brazil and Colombia are all easier on my conscience than China. Buyer beware, I suppose.

Craftsman mechanics tool set BAD QUALITY

If I recall correctly, Blackhawk's sockets are made by Proto. In the examples I've owned and compared, they do look very similar. The Protos are a little bit better finished inside, and they are better marked (stampings on the Blackhawks are well done, but smaller and harder to read than on the...

Student in need of help: Snap on tools worth it?

I work at a community college, so I'll give you a little advice (which is not specific to UTI but true throughout the education system): Ask them if they're regionally accredited. Most likely, they'll tell you that they're "nationally" accredited. Now, I don't want to generalize, but suffice...

Diamond Tool and Horsehoe Co. Adjustable Wrenches

My electrician had one in his box. Far and away better than any new production adjustable I've used. No slop in the jaw - none. I'd pay retail on those if I had to. Nothing off the shelf is going to be better.

    Vise grips/locking pliers

Knipex are very expensive and probably not a good fit for what you're after. Current production, grip-on (not Grip which is a China brand often confused for grip-on) are.arguably the best. They are rebadged as Snap-on and Proto among others. Zorotools carries the proto ones a at good prices...
