    Pouring concrete in winter

As a public works supervisor we poured a lot winter concrete. I forget the additive full name but we used the shortened nick name - posi. Just be sure that the travel time from the plant is not to long and you have enough help to finish the concrete promptly as it sets up fast.

The End of the Garage Workshop?

I always had a house with a garage from the day I was married over 50 years ago. As the family grew so did the house and garage. Raising a family I eventually went to a three car garage. It was never enough. When I retired and bought a house with a two car garage I quickly added a building to...

Would you avoid cotter pin assortments from Home Depot?

I buy all the various store house supplies. I get one supply at a time and use a 20% off coupon along with the free gift coupon. Over the 25 years of doing that I simply never had a problem with sizes or quality. The chrome nyloc nut set is the best. Each size nut comes with two thread counts...

Why are 12 point sockets everywhere.

I had to get a set of 12 point because the brake calipers on HD motorcycles are 12 point. Since I do all my own service on my bikes I was forced to buy more tools.

Easement, garage walls and property fences

If you ever need to paint the side of the building will your have permission to enter his property? If the next owner comes in it is questionable about accessing your side. When you sell your property it it could negatively impact a buyer. The long term best answer is NO! To many legal...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

R&R the front tire on my 08 Buell Ulysses this evening. Just at 18,000 miles on it but it was a soft compound Pirelli Diablo. Put a Dunlop on with should last longer. Used my HF tire changer. Went so well that I had time to install a Saddleman gel solo seat on the 12 Road Glide Custom.

using a carport tent long term outside

I am using one of those right now to cover the Van. It does the job okay. I did use substantially better ground anchors to be sure it stayed secure on windy days. I do have to remove the snow when it sags but it is a quick chore. It is the 10' by 20' model and appears to be like your example...

What oil in new Bendpak lift?

I have used hydraulic oil for 8 years in my two lifts. Cost less than ATF and was available at any farm supply store or auto store that I have ever been in. Besides there are about 8 kinds of ATF fluids. That is too much for my little brain. Heated garage so I don't worry about what temp to use...

3 ton LP Harbor Freight jack

I have a 2.5 ton steel HF jack from the 70's that lifted every vehicle that I have had. Last year it didn't. I added jack fluid and it was back in business. Still have the replacement seal kit that came with it. Maybe it will be needed in another 30 to 40 years.

    Lowes vs. Home Depot?

I no longer go to HD. Every time I bought big ticket items they screwed up multiple parts of every transaction. The manager would not even come out of hiding to hear of the problems. No one seemed to know what was going on even when the had the paper work in their hands.

Do you actually ever use speeder bars?

In 1962 I bought a big set of Craftsman tools. It included one. Never used it. Still in the tool chest. However most of the jobs that I do at home are inside of vehicles/boats/motorcycles and another type of tool worked better. I can see using it when something is on a stand or bench.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Changed the ring and pinion gears in the final drive for the Ural today. No pictures. But it was a challenge. Ural (made in Russia) does not have service manuals at least in English. Forum members that do maintenance/repairs are big on posting the process for other to use .

    Service tray?

I have two of those. Not that brand or as good but $30 each from HF. Used them for 15 years now. One is holding the take off parts from disassembling the final drive on my Ural to replace the ring and pinion gear. When ready to button up all the pieces are right there. As I said not the...
