Garage, wood directly in the ground. I don't understand.

Post on a concrete footing and filled to grade with CA6 (road pack) will last twice as long as posts in a concrete filled hole. Drainage is the key. I know of many post buildings on area farms that are from the 50's and 60's and still in use. My 32' X 33' pole building addition to my 22' X 22'...

MaxJax - Where did you get yours?

Over the years I have bought two lifts from Garage Equipment Supply. Each time they were close to the best price and free shipping. I had one issue each time and they were prompt in resolving them. One was the box with the three drip pans had been bent by the shipper and the pans (plastic) were...

Is it just me or has this "ultimate shop" thing gone too far?

Recently on a new cable show "Million Dollar Rooms" showed a 15,000 sq. ft garage with a 15,000 sq. ft. basement. The building was designed to look like a mansion to disguise that it was a garage. On the ground floor was about 30 motorcycles. 6 of each of the 2003 anniversary models of HD...

What did you do "TO" your garage today?

Re: What did you do to your garage today? Began the long overdue cleaning, clearing and putting back all the little piles here and there from past projects. I used to put everything back when I finished a project, but now that I am retired the idea crept into my head that I have time to do it...

    Identify this car lift

It looks just like the lift that my dad had in his Sinclair Station service garage built in 1952. It was pneumatic powered not hydraulic. It worked great until the state bought him out in the 70's to put in a road. When at full lift, it had a steel arm that you pivoted down as a safety stop it...

20 foot wide Garage Door, Possible Concerns?

My garage door is 20 X 7. When the old one was at the end of its life and I was going to heat the garage, I went to Raynor for a new one. They did come out and measured for themselves as they would for any order. I got the one with R13 insulation, two windows and all the metal braces, tracks...

    Concrete Block Walls

When a friend of mine retired to Punta Gordon a number of years ago, he built a block house. He related to me that it was required to drop in rebar and then fill with concrete. That seemed like a very good method to build a cinder block house that could withstand high winds. That would not...

    pole barn roof truss spacing

My 33'x32' 12' ceiling pole barn has 8' spacing. That is very common in northwest Illinois. The trusses are 2x10 southern yellow pine which is very strong and gets stronger as it ages. They are more than sufficient for area winds and snow loads.

What if I don't seal my floor?

I was told that the floor cannot use an epoxy finish if it has been sealed. I did have mine sealed to help reduce dust. Now, I am wondering it I should have. I might like to have the epoxy floor at some point.
