I am working on restoring a Walker J-134 floor jack (4-ton), and need to find some replacement grips for the handle. The grips on mine are (were) white. I have found two pictures on google images of basically identical jacks, and one appears to have white grips, while the other has yellow...

    Enameled or Painted ?

Anyone have an idea whether the blue color on the manufacturers metal plate on this floor jack handle is painted on, or enameled on? I want to remove the red paint that is on the tag, but don't want to use anything that might take off the original blue color.

Tip: Use headlight kits on face shields

If you have spent money on a kit to polish your dull plastic headlights, the fine polish included is great for cleaning and polishing up scratched or dirty face shields in the shop. I have used it on clear and tinted shields, and it works great!

Tip for thrifty use of old belt sander belts

If you are cheap like me, you don't want to spend a lot of money on rolls of emery cloth. So, when I have a belt shred or break on my belt sander, I take the remaining belt and cut it into strips that I can use in the lathe or on the drill press to finish parts: Then I roll them up and save...

How large an I-Beam would you use?

I am thinking about adding an I-Beam across the primary work area of my shop, off which I will hang a trolley and chain hoist. The clear span is 14', and each end will be vertically supported and laterally braced at that point. Basically, one end will sit atop both posts of a pallet rack...

Does tool selection compound the complexity of the job?

I was in the middle of a job today, and started wondering whether the fact that I have certain tools at my disposal makes a simple job become far more involved. My wheelbarrow had a flat tire Saturday. Instead of fixing it, I rummaged around and found a small tractor front wheel/tire that...

Any ideas on what this Starrett Vise is worth?

How much is too much to pay for a Starrett vise like this? It has 5" wide jaws, and no breaks/repairs. These aren't as heavy as the older ones.
