Personally, I would go with a used Tektronix if you are not going to get an automotive-specific scope. They are the best in my opinion and you can get used ones for a decent price.

When I was in the Air Force we had a portable CTK that was filled with a lot of Xcelite stuff. When you opened it you would swear that someone had barfed in it...very distinct smell. I have some of the clear/blue/red Craftsman screwdrivers and they all have that same smell.

I believe flukes are the best handheld DMMs. I have a 73iii and have used a 77BN and a 179 for work. Metermans are garbage. Simpson's are great but old and bulky.

Snap-On is having a special, FCF72 and T72 together for $100. Got'em today.

I agree with Delray, the CM thin profile is great for the money. I have a SO TL72 that is my favorite though.
