Metal siding & cell signal experience?

Put your phone in a metal box and try calling it. won’t have signal. It’s only gonna get worse as everything switches over to 5G. wi-Fi calling will work, but I would also install a outdoor access point. If you start a call on Wi-Fi calling and then walk outside where your Wi-Fi won’t work...

Metal Lathe Cutting Oil ... Where does it go?

Your hands, walls, some stays on the work, some clings to chips. Like others have said, you are only using a little bit. What goes into the chip pan will go with the chips when you clean it out. I've switched away from oatey dark to ridgid nu-clear. So far so good and much more pleasant

bendpak asymetric or symetric ???? which one should i get??

I have a symmetric rotary that has tripple extending arms front and rear. I can lift anything on it and can load it either direction. The only real advantage I can see to a asymmetric lift is if you work on strictly fwd cars and a lot of them since it makes it easier to open the doors. My...

    0.001 vs 0.0001

Measuring devices for basic measuring in the tenths range are both inexpensive and plentiful, especially second hand.

Adding overhead hoist to pole barn

You should go look at the size beams a 5 ton bridge crane uses. I bet they are a lot larger than you are thinking.

Compressor safety, it always bears repeating

One of the times that I forgot mine on I found the compressor running and the shop filled with an oil smelling smoke. The pressure cut off had welded itself shut after it cycled and it was running against the over pressure safety valve. I hadn't been in the shop for several days or maybe a...

UPDATE: Restoration Photos and another question. Scored Vidmar cabinet for 100$ at an estate sale.

I think the taller vidmars are around 450lbs so that one is probably not too far off of 400.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Certainly not new but new to me! Picked up a pretty awesome 18" bandsaw for $50 (yes, $50!) and a spot welder for $100. The bandswaw has a pneumatic feed and the blade speed adjusts from 20-5000. Even came with a few rolls of blade!

Anyone use a rotary switch for multiple welders?

Same boat. I'm making a box with a cord that has 3 outlets and mounting it to my welding cart. This way they can stay plugged in and I can put an extension cord in between if I need to push it to the other side of the shop to do something.

    Does anyone wear shop aprons?

I wear one when out in the shop. Helps keep my clothes clean and gives me pockets to shove **** in so I'm not putting my dirty hands in my pants pockets. Has to be the style with a hinged top pocket though or I spend half the day picking up my 6" scale from the floor.

Looking for Recommendations for a Plasma Cutter

I'm sure most people can get by just fine with a chicom plasma cutter in their home shop. If you can afford it though I certainly wouldn't consider it money wasted buying a hypertherm like some suggest however. I have had both and I'm at a point in my life were I have more money than time and...

Welding hood with headgear that doesn't ****

Thanks, you just saved me a few hundred $. I think the infinity and elite use the same headgear so after I read your post I walked out to the barn to see if I was missing something and sure enough there is a strong detent that you have to push up much harder than you would think. It isn't...

Welding hood with headgear that doesn't ****

Who makes a welding hood with decent headgear? I have a miller digital elite and the headgear is a disgrace. If you crank down the adjustment knobs to the point the headgear feels like it is about to break and then give it a little more and don't make any sudden movements you might get the...
