    Old drill good for holes?

I will remember to buy an old BD 1/2" low rpm when I see one. But I already have 4 drills. First was Skil 3/8". Couldn't handle 1" auger. Bought 1/2" Milwaukee 850 rpm. Not impressed. Bought Milwaukee 1/2" 350 rpm. Got scared by the arm-breaking warning. Bought no-name brand 1/2" 500 rpm. A man...

    Old drill good for holes?

Scared by the arm-breaking torque warning for the 3-gear reduction B&D drill, I bought a 2-gear reduction drill I found on craigslist, though I already bought a 3-gear reduction Milwaukee drill. This no name brand has 1/2" 3.5A 500 rpm single speed no reverse, 60's drill according to a youtube...

    Old drill good for holes?

It is sold online. I cannot try it unfortunately. Unless internal mechanism is worn out, what goes in (electrical power) should come out as hole-drilling-power, right? I will pass this drill since it does not come with a key. I didn't know my 1/2" drill key may not fit this drill. Thank you for...

    Old drill good for holes?

I found an old 1/2" Black Decker drill, 6A 450 rpm. Milwaukee's hole shooters are in the same amperage rpm range. Can I expect the same performance from the old BD drill? Thank you. One related question. The drill does not have a key. Can I use any 1/2" key? Thank you.

    My greaseable dust pan!

Is there a way to bend sheet metal in one shot? Do you have a tip for a novice like me? +5 degree for aluminum, for example. One more question. Is there a name for the hinge?

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

Hahaha, the infamy of Ford Edge is widely known! To amuse other members who advised me, let me explain. Ford Edge AWD has a gear box that transfers power to rear differential when needed. It is sealed for life and has a fill hole and a vent. Apparently Ford engineers underestimated heat input...

    Vintage Skil 77

I am interested in the saw. I live in Dallas and shipping shouldn't be excessive. I will send you a pm. Thank you.

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

I am not a professional machinist but received a semi-formal machining training and did some machining. But I have never heard of or seen a tapered reamer/8-pt socket. At least the machine shop I used didn't have one. Thank you for the advice.

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

Thank you for answering all my questions. I am going back to the driveway to finish the project. EDIT: Thanks to your advice I was able to complete the project. This was my first npt tapping and I didn't know tapping depth is adjusted to fit the plug. This was also my first socket wrench...

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

I found a 12 point socket that fits the tap. How do you connect the socket to the wrench? Do you mean a regular socket wrench? Instead of tap wrench that has handle on both sides? 5/16" socket fits the tap square. It is a 3/8" drive socket.

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

Gear and chain oil. I am lying on my back and the hole is straight up. That's why I am using a thick oil.

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

It is a tapered pipe tap. R=0.339, 11/32=0.3438. So I actually used an oversized drill. Is there a tap extender? Basically I need a tall tap holder.

Correct drill size for 1/8" npt tap

Goal: To make a drain hole (1/8" npt) in a gear housing (1/2" thick aluminum casting) Problem: Drilled 11/32" hole. First 3 threads were easy. Now working on the 4th thread. It is becoming progressively difficult. Even 1/4 turn of the tap is a struggle. Not having a proper tap holder setup is...

Thank you for educating me. Now I know I can go either way, electrical or pneumatic, and what their strength is. Thank you again.

    Air drill question

I need a drill more powerful than my corded Skil 3/8" 5A for one home project. IR 1/2" air drill specs 0.5 HP. My Skil, 120v x 5A = 600watt is more than 0.5 HP. Question: Is an average air drill not as powerful as 5-6 amp drill? Does low rpm air drill (700 rpm for instance) output as much...

Bigger drill to make holes in tree stump

Yes, I was thinking about drilling holes and using stump remover. I didn't know it would take years. I had better change the plan to mechanical removal. I doubt city would give me a burn permit. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Bigger drill to make holes in tree stump

Do you mean a setup like this? The auger is not chrome moly steel. Still ok? By the way, the middle piece in the photo below is 7/16 socket (1/2 drive). I googled for 1/2" drive 7/16" adapter but all hits were male adapters. By the way my drill is Skil 5A drill. I could use 1/4" auger but not...

Bigger drill to make holes in tree stump

Thank you for the names (mixer drill, hole hawg, joist drill) and links. Now I have enough to choose from. Also the suggestion of spade blade instead of ship auger.

Bigger drill to make holes in tree stump

I have 2 tree stumps to remove, and need to drill 1" holes into them. My corded drill does not have the power to run 1" auger (1/2" chuck). I just need a bigger drill with higher ampere, but all those high amperage drills are either hammer drill or SDS (plus) rotary drill. Can I buy either type...
