Need to remove about 6" of caliche-like top soil (several yards), which earth moving equipment is best?

Learned a new word, "caliche". "a hardened natural cement of calcium carbonate that binds other materials—such as gravel, sand, clay, and silt." (Wikipedia 2024)

We need more information to answer any questions. From the title I thought you were going to tell us about some cool new indie hobby store.

Suggestions for holding paint for touching up nail heads?

Life's too short to be washing brushes. I would use a yogurt container to hold the paint and replace if it dries up. For brushes I'd use a disposable glue brush, cheap child's paintbrush or Q-tips for nail heads, and a disposable foam brush for the ends.

Beginning my retirement career and breaking into woodworking.

Welcome! I highly recommend hand tool woodworking. Cheaper, quieter, less risk, better exercise, less dust. Check out Paul Sellers and Chris Schwarz. And enjoy!

Running Honda eu7000is in insulated 24x36 garage?

Agreed. "Backfeeding" with no other information given implies a suicide cord without an interlock. Helpful to know, thanks. I'd call that an "Interlock System", and to me is very different not just cavalierly "backfeeding" the panel. Setting CO aside for a moment, have you considered the...

What are these? May be blacksmith related.

Could be some kind of dogs or holding stops for an assembly bench.

Am I using these shackles correctly to support my engine?

That looks like a strong setup (better than most I've seen) and I don't think it matters which way you put the shackle on. Not a bad idea to double up, though not as critical since one motor mount will still be connected.

Basic HVAC Skills for Homeowner / Handyman?

As a former auto mechanic, I am naturally overconfident in my skills. Therefore I have done some residential HVAC work on my own systems. I haven't messed with refrigerant (yet), but I will attempt most anything else. There are a few common parts that fail and can be easily replaced if you are...

Drilling out hardened broken bolts from engine block...drill sizes, types, speed?

At my shop we had a rule that if it was broken off flush or lower in the head or block, it automatically got pulled out of the vehicle and sent to machine shop for extraction. Too many wasted hours and broken drill bits, all to send it out anyway.

    Fiskar Tools

I have a 40 year old pair of Fiskars scissors my grandmother gave me. I credit their longevity partly to high quality, but mostly that they are Left Handed Scissors and don't wander off. Everyone else in the family throws them back in the drawer in disgust 🤣

Hi, just got a new Maverick Truck and came here to see what I can see!

Nice! If the Maverick had been available in 2021, I'd've bought one instead of my F150.

Blackboard or Whiteboard for shop use

I like blackboard better from an aesthetic standpoint. The feel and sound of chalk is much more appealing. And there's no chemical smell. Also chalk works after decades (unlike dry erase markers). So if the SHTF, chalk and a blackboard are the big winner. You can also eat chalk if you need an...
