    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

Saturday night was spent milling cherry boards down for the door. There aren't a lot of options for buying hardwoods around me. Basically private sale, or there was one dealer a little over an hour away. I found another one that's a bit closer, that's about half the price of the other guy...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

Friday I took off work early to run down and grab my lumber order. 30bf of cherry for the dutch door. Some 6/4 Sapele for window sashes and some 4/4 Sapele for a T+G Panel for the front door. I'm using this cherry door as a practice project before I build a door for our house. Saturday was...

    Help tuning a jointer

Thanks for the input guys. I thought I had it figured out but it seems I still need to do some work. I'm using a jointer pal to set the blade heights. I followed the directions to a T and it seems my blades were all within .001. I measured with my indicator on the magnetic base though, so I'm...

12'x16' They auction them off to raise funds for the school. I was seriously tempted since I want to build one anyways.

    Help tuning a jointer

I've read that you don't want your knives completely even with your outfeed, but that you want them slightly above the outfeed. The ruler method is just a way to measure the blades without a dial indicator. I do have a dial indicator with a magnetic base, but the base certainly wasn't helping...

    Help tuning a jointer

I am chasing my tail here. I have a rigid 6" jointer I'm trying to tune. Right now I believe it is putting a slight twist into the boards, so they rock corner to corner. I also believe that it is tapering the boards as well. I have gone through it trying to alleviate these issues and It is still...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

And todays project. My lovely wife went on a short road trip to pick up a new tool with me. Ever since I found out about radial arm drills, I wanted one. For no other reason than I think they're cool. I don't have much use for a 3,000lb drill though. That being said, I picked up this Walker...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

Thanks guys! In September I took a timber framing class in Northern MN at the Grand Marais Folk School. It was a bunch of fun and I learned a lot! I even remembered to take some photos. I hope to start building a timber framed barn within the next year or two. It's something I've wanted to do...

THE WALKER-TURNER THREAD - Post your Walker-Turner pics

Well I ended up picking it up. It's a little worse than I was hoping, but certainly not the end of the world. I was able to see it work under power and verify there was nothing majorly wrong with it. The spindle return spring doesn't work and it's missing the handle to lock the head from moving...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

I also built a clamp rack.. Anyways...Other things I've done. I plan on building our exterior door for the porch rebuild. I figured I needed to go through my jointer and tune it, if I was going to be jointing those long boards. I spent a week trying to get it perfect, and I think I somehow...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT 5 acres and a farmhouse

Well I managed to finish the Power Rake, and it actually works! That being said its not perfect. I immediately bent my gauge wheels. I kind of figured that would happen at some point, just thought I might have more a bit more time before it actually happened! To fix the wheels, I had some side...

THE WALKER-TURNER THREAD - Post your Walker-Turner pics

What's a good price for a Radial Arm Drill? Unsure of the exact model, but it appears to be earlier "J" model with 16 speeds. It does not have the original base. It runs and works, but its definitely been used. I do mostly wood working, so I don't really need it, but i've always wanted a...

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Jar944's 3car cabinet shop.

I've been looking into building a nice router table. For what I'd have into one I could buy a used shaper! Not sure how it'd fit in the basement though

    Timber Frame screen porch.

Very Cool! I just got done taking a TF class and have plans to cut a 12x16 or 16X20 barn this winter. Id love to here your thoughts on the Ryobi mortiser. That seems to be nicer than the Makita 7100B that are usually on ebay at that price point.

1918 Home Porch rehab, advice welcome

While you're not wrong, sagging was a poor foundation! The porch was just sitting on blocks that were sitting on topsoil. I appreciate the input. I'll spend some more time verifying the load before I call it good.

1918 Home Porch rehab, advice welcome

Instead of a new thread, I'll just piggy back off this one. My wife would very much like to keep it enclosed. Our house is tiny, so this extra enclosed space is a nice place to hang out during the winter. After I made this post, my wife and I ended up just talking to a local window supplier...

    Show us your welding projects

Here's the *mostly* finished project. I've used it for about an hour so far and it seems to work well. I'm adjusting the chain and sprockets a bit, and refining the tensioner. I also need to redo the gauge wheels, they are not heavy duty enough.

1918 Home Porch rehab, advice welcome

Curious to hear peoples thoughts on this. We have a 1918 Craftsmen Style house with an enclosed porch on the front of it. The house hasn't had any updates on the exterior, and is 90% as built in the interior, barring some new cabinets in the kitchen and a bathroom upgrade in 2010. The porch...

    The Everything 3D Printer Thread

I've used matchbox, overture, and atomic PETG all with good results on stock X1 settings right out of the package. About the only issue I have is the first layer adhesion on the stock plate. All that being said, I would try drying the filament before chasing your tail with settings.
