Just got a mig welder, need some help

I thought of that, but is it safe? I assume if I used heavy enough cable it would be. Where would I get the ends?

Just got a mig welder, need some help

I just got a new millermatic 180, it's 230v, and I have two garages I would like to use it in. Both garages have a 220 outlet for the air compressors that are in them. One is even on it's own breaker. But neither plug matches the plug on my new welder. What do I need to do to get it working...

    Good mig welder?

I'm interested in buying a mig welder for home shop use. I took a welding class and I want to be able to do sheetmetal mostly and some occasional heavier stuff. I want something I can hook a gas bottle to. I'm thinking a 220 is probably better and my garage is well equipped for either a 110 or...

    Protecting from lightning?

My house or garage was struck by lightning today in a fast strong storm. It killed a TV and killed the oven in the house. In the small garage on the house the breaker for the outlets was blown but I don't see anything wrong. The 60 amp breaker for the big garage out back was also blown. Out in...

    Timing light problem

I have a snap-on timing light with adjustable knob on the back. It recently stopped working. It still hums when the trigger is pulled. I took it apart and it doesn't look like any kind of regular bulb. Maybe the pickup is bad? Is it something I can fix or should I get ahold of a snap-on guy?

New door handles, need some help

I hate to have it opposite the deadbolt on top. A quick check of thier website, it looks like a locksmith can flip it. I wonder if it's something one could do at home though.

New door handles, need some help

I bought some new kwikset locks for my doors to my garage. However, when I go to install it the key slot is upside down. How to I address this? The instructions don't mention it, I couldn't find anyting on thier website about it. Do I need to go back to the locksmith again? Thanks all!

Does it hurt to leave air in a compresser?

I alway have, but then someone who's knowledge is questionable told me I shouldn't. I don't want to wreck my new 60 gallon 7 horse job. I've got it sealed tight as a drum, it's held at 120 all week. It actually goes up to 135 but I used it a bit. Should I drain it if I don't plan to use it, or...

    Sealing an air compressor?

I tried the brush on stuff first. I could hear it leak. I replaced it with lots of teflon tape today and it seems better. Thanks guys!

    Sealing an air compressor?

I got a new 7 hp, 60 gal, 135psi air compressor today for $500. I installed an iron 45* elbow (couldn't find one in brass) and a ball valve on top. With the ball valve shut off it has a slight leak, looks like on both sides of the iron adapter. Where it goes into the compressor and into the ball...

best air compresser for the money ?

What's the difference between single and double phase? I've got an oilless 5 horse 25 gallon craftsman that isn't that old and works fine, but I really hate it. Too noisy, and can't keep up with my blast cabinet.

    Grease gun problem?

I've had this intermittent problem with my older lincoln hand pump grease gun. It acts like it's out of grease when it's not. You can pump it all you want and it doesn't build pressure. Usually after setting it down on the floor or bench it desides to puke a wad of grease out.

Hanging heavy stuff on the wall?

I decided I'd get this extra '51 vicky door off the floor and on the wall. I took it outside and primered it, I forgot how heavy this thing is. How is the best way to hang this on the wall and keep it there?

    Sparkplug socket

Boy, would it kill them to make all plug sockets like that? Oh wait, then you wouldn't pay 5x the price. That snap-on one was probably pricey. When you make your living with your tools they're still the only way to go.

    Copper airline installation..

Looks great! I was just going to post asking about doing this. Is there any link with info on the proper way to run the pipe? I remember seeing something a long time ago, about diameters, and tilting the pipe at a slight downward angle (5 degrees or something?) and putting water traps and...

    Undrained compressor...would you buy?

Well it's over now, but I'd have gone for it. My dad worked at a dealer where there were 3 main compressors, probably at least 30 years old at the time. He told me one day he heard the one keep running. It had blown out at the bottom. They shut it off, patched and welded it up, and it was fine...

    Finished Garage - Less Dust??

I think a nice flannel car cover might be the ticket if it's not moving for any length of time, and maybe a california car duster in the trunk for quick touchups.

I feel like I'm part of a dying breed

I'm by far not into the import scene, but a few guys I knew were, and I checked out thier cars a few times. I've gotta give them credit, they were doing some cool stuff. Just like any car, you can tell the hot one with the guy who knows his stuff from the poser ghetto cruiser with the glued on...

Need help fitting garage into my budget

I agree with trainer that $5500 today will be $7500 in no time. My advice would be to do a little at a time though if your funds are short. Get the building up for now. Add electric, insulation, walls, and heat later on as time and money allow. That's how I did mine. A neighbor is an...
