Black Friday Router lift deal, anyone??

Thanks for the heads up. *if* there is a 20%, that'd still be $10 cheaper than Infinity Cutting tools.

    ...so I bought this house.

Previous owner of my house painted over the brick and mantle w/ oil based gloss paint. Wish I could go back in time and stop him/her from doing it. I much prefer the brick, and there is no going back now....tried removing it manually and with chemicals, but the brick is the highly figured...

Black Friday Router lift deal, anyone??

Not sure if this is the right place or not - anyone have any leads on one of the high end router lifts going on sale for Black Friday? I'm not really sold on any specific one....I would consider the Jessem/Incra, Woodpecker, Kreg, MLCS, Bench Dog, etc. My tabletop router table setup is no...

Any good brands/source for forged 3/8" hand impact driver bits?

My bad - meant to add that the shanks are 5/16" for the 3/8" drive adapter. Do you have any part numbers for the impact rated Proto bits? I see the full set from Grainger, but the single bits are listed as "Not for impact use"

Any good brands/source for forged 3/8" hand impact driver bits?

I have an old Craftsman manual hand impact driver that I use pretty frequently for removing stubborn/rusted screws. I need some good forged replacement bits in both Phillips & slotted. The cheap ones keep sheering off, creating an even bigger problem. Anyone have a good replacement brand/set...

    Let's see your axes

I don't know how many of those he's selling - you're going under the assumption that these things are flying out the door. He might only sell 1 a month. Handle making isn't that hard as long as you start with a good wood blank (no knots, uniform, straight grain, etc) and shape according to the...

That vise in reference to the stand....8 incher? Looks like a biggun. The date of that picture is interesting....that would have been at the tail end of the steam era for Santa Fe, as they already had diesels in use at that point. Steam engines were mostly phased out by early 50s.

Baldor is now owned by Swiss multinational company ABB. Don't know if production will continue state-side or not.

Nice snag - that is the first gen of Craftsman vises made by Columbian (hence the 506 designation). The swivel base was optional. Looks pretty clean!

I've used that 4.2 Amp, 42 pound, 3/4 HP rated DeWalt and was not at all impressed. Their HP rating doesn't make sense (do the math with the rated amperage vs output). For comparison: My Baldor 8107W grinder tips the scale at 100 lbs with wheels, rated at 8.6 Amps(115V), and is also rated at...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

First time I've seen one like that. It really looks like they just removed metal and changed the design to accommodate the reduction of material. The base is different too...unless the B series is the same way, it's completely different than the drum brake style mechanism I've seen in the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I posted a few pics when I got it a month ago- https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7459731&postcount=66381 Yup - this one is going back into service. The only kind of vise made for beating! I just have to figure out where/how I'm going to mount it. Clarification on the...

Yes, Billhook is correct. It's considered a style of machete, although I've seen some large enough that I'd consider it a sword ^_^

Re-assembled the blacksmith vise tonight. It took a few weeks of rotation in the electrolysis bin due to the size and the amount of rust built up on it, some work with a wirewheel on the bad parts, and a bit of love with the die grinder to clean up a few areas. It's surprisingly in good shape...

Maybe a 976B like VA posted earlier? The older models were 157 lbs, which is about where you'd expect a 6" non-pipe jaw vise to be.

Wilton Bullet Vise date stamping. show yours with or without EXP on slide

The interesting thing about the #6 - the base paint coat was definitely grey and not that hospital sage green (which I also like, BTW). The same gray color was found in areas between/under other parts of the vise, suggesting it was painted this color and then assembled. I doubt the farmer that...
