    Proper Header Placement???

the garage has 10' tall interior ceilings and with an 18" tall header the wall can accommodate an 8' tall garage door. The plans only call for a 7' tall garage door currently. So the framer is asking about placing the header to be flush with the plate above and he would "Fill in" frame below...

    Proper Header Placement???

Framers are asking for "future use" purposes since there are 10' interior ceilings and plans only call for a 7' tall door......he is suggesting to put the laminated beam (5 1/4x18") up high and frame below to allow for a door change to 8' high before install or at some point in the future......I...

    Proper Header Placement???

Quick framing question......what is the difference in placement of headers when framing??? Take a garage door header....laminated beam.....in situations where it is a 9x7 door or even a double door at 16 or 18x7, with a 9 or 10 foot tall interior ceiling, I've seen the headers placed with the...

That hole is a footing/pier for a support column at the stairway. It is isolated from the slab with standard expansion joint fiber. At this point though, due to a truss design change, I dont think we will need any post at all so I may just patch it in as there is no other use for it I can think of.

    My "Adirondack Conversion" Project

That's a 75'+ Antenna tower that holds an old broadcast TV antenna on top, and I added a Cell Phone Booster Antenna at 60' up as we are in a fairly remote riverfront location where Cell coverage was very very bad prior to adding it. The TV antenna on top now really just gives the Bald Eagles a...

    My "Adirondack Conversion" Project

So we got lucky with the weather last week and were able to pour the 6" slab of 4500# mix without accelerator Thursday morning at 7:30am. This was over 6 mil vapor barrier, wire mesh, and 5-6" of crushed and compacted gravel. Temps went into the 50's during the days and mid to low 30's at...

    Siding with T1-11

Anybody know the current code for nailing 5/8 T1-11 as sheathing/siding in one? OK to put house wrap underneath it against the studs first? Other advice? It's a two story garage build.... Thanks.

To Pour or Not to Pour ......Slab

If it rains there will be lots of water coming off the one side of the existing garage roof for sure. I purposely put the garage end of the tarp high and did leave two "angled" sections for the water to run off the tarp. RISK....it rains too hard and the water hitting the tarp actually tears...

Good things come to those who wait.......temps back to low 40's today and going up to near 60 over a full week. Lowest evenings around 33 also. Light rain for Saturday afternoon too. So we prepped for the slab today and are pouring tomorrow. Still thinking of using insulated blankets but not...
