    Reddy heater question

I want to buy a torpedo heater for my shop\garage. A buddy of mine brought over his Reddy a couple weeks ago and it worked great. My Dad has a Reddy as well, so I figure I'll go out and buy a Reddy. But I can't find them anywhere local. Anyone know of a national chain, or a local place in...

    Garage Door Decisions

My Father came out here for "vacation" and helped me build some carriage doors. We have a simple design and so far things are going well. I've been taking pictures along the way and will post them once the build is complete. We went with a roll up on our main garage and 2 months after writing...

Are garage doors from the big box stores inferior?

Costco has a deal here for Garage doors - installed by a door company. They're Amarr doors. I did some comparisons between them and HD (Clopay) doors, and the cost was about the same. This is with 10% off from HD until 4/01.

    Garage Door Decisions

Yep, but there are a couple problems with those. 1. Expense, although I could probably build them myself for a bit less. 2. The eave goes too low over the door opening. I would have to trim about 2 inches off the backing board behind the gutter to provide clearance for the door to swing out...

    Garage Door Decisions

Martin doors are nice, but they're out of our price range. I can get two Amarr doors and a new opener for the price of a single Martin.

    Garage Door Decisions

There are a couple roll ups that I've looked at based on threads here. You have any pics? Are you going to paint it? I thought about painting the rollup, but it seems like that may be more maintenance in the long run.

    Garage Door Decisions

We decided to get new garage doors this year, and it's long overdue. I looked at the big box stores and Amarr, and we figured out what we wanted. And then I decided to come here and see what other folks were doing. Our rock solid decision is now as solid as a bowl of gravy. What it comes...

Gutters on garage filling with leaves. Ideas?

I've done the "up on a ladder with gloved hands" method and the leaf blower method and I prefer to use the leaf blower. I have a shop vac that turns into a blower, and I use that blower ALL the time. I have a large driveway and a lot of trees - I could clean the driveway every weekend, even in...

    Which ratcheting wrenches to buy?

I ended up with the GearWrench reversables. I was looking at the flex heads and was willing to try them, but in the end it came down to being able to buy both metric and SAE reversable sets vs. only a single set of the flex heads. I have a baby on the way so I'm trying to squeeze the budget as...

    Which ratcheting wrenches to buy?

I wasn't even considering the flex heads - until now. I'm concerned about the flex head coming loose when I need it to stick. I've never used flex head wrenches before. That being said, the ratcheting wrenches are for tight places where I can't fit a regular ratchet and socket, and end up...

    Tankless Water Heater

Our house had a Noritz model when we moved in. I can't tell you about the cost savings since I have nothing to compare to, but I can make some general comments. 1. It definitely keeps up with demand for our usage. We regularly have 2 people taking hot showers at the same time. 2. Ours uses gas...

    Which ratcheting wrenches to buy?

I have a GC for Sears and I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on some ratcheting wrenches. I'm looking for recommendations about which ones to buy since there are a couple available. Should I go with the fully reversable set, or is the normal ratcheting set ok? I like the idea of being able to...

    car for kids suggestions

I was thinking about getting my daughter an old car for her 12th birthday. Something that needs bodywork, an engine, and some other work. If she wants to drive by her 16th birthday she'll need to get to work. I'm thinking that if she puts her blood sweat and tears into it she won't go out and...

    Garage door: Swing-Out or Overhead?

I'm going to replace the door on my shop by taking the existing sliders and building swing out doors from them. After taking a good look at the set up I realized that swing outs wouldn't clear the overhang from the roof. It looks like there's about an inch and a half of extra clearance that will...
