    Help me re-design this please

well, more research and it looks like a fly cutter will make the square end very easily, cut the first one and then place it against the vice and do the next one, that will be 90 degrees and repeat 2 more times and I have a square, just have to make sure I place the round part of the rod at...

    Help me re-design this please

So, I need to make 4 (2 left, 2 right) interior door locks for a old 1934 British car, no keys or anything its just something to open the door. I only have 2 springs, but I don't see why I can't use modern coil springs near the base of the arm to a new post in the lower right. Or is there a...

If you have to watch the weather, you need more garage space..

different thinking all around...my 1934 project car is in the shop, everything else has never seen the inside of my garage. Daily drivers and my motorcycle are outside, I do cover the bike though to protect it as best I can.

    Racedeck flooring first timer

I know people complain about the noise, but i never noticed it until I read about it here. My Racedeck was put down long before I ever heard of GJ, coming up on 20 years pretty soon (next year I think). It was many years before I noticed the noise and only because I read about it here. My...

    Removing anchors from small safe

that safe may have holes in the back and you could bolt to the studs. That would be easier/safer than drilling through the tile plus easier to fix when you want to move the safe somewhere else. May not be as strong bolted to the wall, but a safe like that is more to keep honest people honest...

At home "hardware store"... what do you keep an inventory of?

I keep a handful of copper joints in 1/2 and 3/4, some pipe and since there is some PVC in the yard some of those also, a few faucets for outside and o-rings for inside faucets. Always have a 2x4 or 3 handy. Some nuts and bolts of various sizes, I tend to buy a few more than I need for spares...

    Building Location: View vs. Privacy

what is the view ? is it the view of your house ? or the view of mountains ? a lake ? it looks like just open fields. I have no idea but before i could answer, I would need to know what the view is. I value privacy over view, but for the right view i will give up some privacy.

    Racedeck trim?

I just put cabinets, tool boxes, lathes, mill, welders, table saw, etc up against the wall and voila, I don't see the edge anymore.

Anyone regret doing Rigid Plastic tiles?

Absolutely no regrets. My Racedeck floor is around or over 20 years old (purchased around year 2001 +/- a year), some parts of my shop still look new, other parts have a few holes from plasma cutting or welding and middle of the shop has a lot of overspray from painting parts. When I tried...

    spray gun and or booth

Well still undecided on booth. I saw one poster here mention he has an inflatable and it's not that big a deal, so likely will go with that. I do one other option that I only thought of a few days ago, I have a 4-post lift, if there is nothing on it, I could put the rails to the top and...

    Should I even be surprised

good timing on this subject for me. I have a 20 year old AC floor jack and a even older Sears floor jack at home. Son-in-law is finally moving his car out of my shop to his place and wants to "borrow" one of my jacks. My wife said we would buy him one for his birthday in 2 weeks, went to...

    spray gun and or booth

well, I was thinking of more or less top of the line, Apollo Precision 5 for the turbine. What I saw on the net was minimal overspray and I could paint in my garage. More reading on the net and some people say it's the best for car parts but for the body you should use a proper compressor...

    spray gun and or booth

Interesting I only used a turbine one time and it was a 5 stage but I had almost no orange peel. I was under the internet impression that turbine’s gave a better job I bought a bunch of pvc pipe on the way home to build a booth

    spray gun and or booth

I lost access to my friends spray booth, he had a shop and if the booth was not in use over the weekend, I could use it as long as I was out by Monday morning, he sold the shop and now I paint my cars in the garage. I had no idea how bad overspray could get, my S2000 got covered with overspray...

    Woodshop Layout for Power Purposes

ok, I will give you that one...everyone calls it 220 but you are right, 120x2=240 Same with 110V, its technically 120 although in my house it always 119 even with different volt meters.

    Woodshop Layout for Power Purposes

I wired 4 50AMP 220V plugs, one on each wall and also 2 20AMP 220V one in the middle of each long wall. My table saw is 220V and that gives me the option of moving it from one long wall to the other, the 4 50AMPs were so I could plug in my TIG anywhere in the shop...within a week of building, I...

what did I do wrong ? bad weld

well the thing was plasma cut but i thought i went back into good metal before welding. I can't imagine not noticing that the gas was off, its usually instataneous "oh ****" when I forget to turn it on. I do wonder if something was wrong with my MIG wire since I did have some issues getting a...

what did I do wrong ? bad weld

I had to weld up a plate, 1/8" thick to make is shorter, I did this with my MIG and it looked good but when I ground down the weld it was full of holes, its the first time its happened to me. I ground it all out and this time TIG'd it so its good now and not worried about it falling apart, but...

    Homelite chainsaw... question

I got tired of yearly rebuilding carbs on a chain saw I hardly ever use, even running the thing dry when done and it would not start a year later. I went electric and now gone battery so no more cords. If its a bigger job, I can rebuild the carb but not needed to do that since I got a battery...

Moisture or mold under Racedeck or Swisstrax?

Just let it dry...in near 20 years time, my garage has flooded twice, both times an inch or 2 of water above the few tiles that were not floating. Fun to walk on :) I never did anything special, just let it dry out naturally and when I lifted up the floor to move to my new garage, the concrete...
