Barcalo (barcolounger fame) 1930s automotive wrench

One of the oldest wrenches I have is a Barcalo short double box end 1/2x9/16 I used it yesterday to get at a hard to reach nut on a compressor.

    Cable TV experts ???

Internet requires a cleaner/better/stronger signal than regular cable tv. The strength of signal you get at the pole isn't the same everywhere, and it's not likely to stay the same as long as you have cable. It's possible for the signal to be too strong for the modem to connect too,. If you can...

    3/4" filter/separator/filter

To answer some of your questions... Parker offers a lot of lines and a lot of products, but at the top end, they are pretty much the world leader in compressed air filtration. At the top end they are also incredibly expensive. Over the years they have bought many competitors, and they have the...

Good Fuel Can that DOES NOT leak...

This is the answer. I get them at the local Stihl chainsaw shop. Stihl shops are the only places I have ever seen them on the shelf, but I'm sure other places have them. You will 86 your other gas cans.

    Craftsman vs. DeWalt Power Tools

I am just a home user, but have had about every brand of power tool there is at some point, and I have had the best luck with the newer Bosch stuff. I have a bosch 14.4 that I love. I use the drill/driver the most. I also have a bosch worm drive circular saw a sidewinder saw, a jigsaw, and a...

    Hooking up air compressor lines

I used to be in the filtration business. Compressed air filtration wasn't something we got into normally, but I have seen setups like you describe in industrial applications many times. Most filter assemblies have a boss of some kind on the top so you can mount them to something instead of...

12 point sockets, are they necessary?

There is really no drawback to using 12 pt all the time, except the possibility of rounding something off, and IMO an open end wrench is 100 times more likely to round something off than a 12pt socket. And the biggest argument for having sets of both is that if you are working on something and...

    Got Wood?

Some years ago when I was dealing in parts and cores for big diesel stuff, we got some used transmissions and gearboxes from Belize. These came shipped in big wooden crates made from a hardwood called Ipe. Stinks a little when you cut it, but the stuff is like iron. Never rots, about twice the...

Bled my Air Compressor and got rust. Now What?

I just got done servicing my old Kellogg American compressor. It has a pretty heavy tank compared to most rollaround compressors I see nowadays, but it's 50 years old. I don't know when it was drained last - likely more than ten years ago - it's only used occasionally. It had a 1/8 npt...

    Best CHEAP flashlight, <$20

I have had a zillion flashlights, and have used them a lot, and this one: http://www.princetontec.com/?q=node/79 is the most useful one I have ever owned by a long, long ways. It is not one of the super bright ones, but the batteries last forever and it is plenty bright unless you are...

    ive been ripped off

I like that one! When I was a little kid in the 1970's, one of my friend's dad had a cadillac - this was before everyone on earth had super nice cars. They just had a house with a open carport, and 2 or 3times he had his tires, rims or hubcaps stolen - I don't remember which, because I as...

8" hole thru concrete wall - how?

I have done 10"-12" holes this way several times through some pretty serious concrete, but we used a 55# air hammer drill with a 1" bit and knocked out the middle with a small jackhammer. All at the bottom of a 30 foot deep hole in the ground.

    ive been ripped off

I have a detached shop with a shed off the back, and live at the end of a dead end street, so someone could sneak up on my property through the woods there or from a block away pretty easily. So, on the backside of my shop and shed, I built a long two level dog kennel/run and I have two big...

    Leathermans you rely on?

I have one of each swisstool - the large one and the Spirit. I love them both. I also have a Squirt. I carry one swisstool in the truck and one at home. I always have a knife in my pocket, either an old Case stockman or an equally old Case Barlow. When I go to one of those dangerous offices...

    lubricating ratchets

I just put a rebuild kit in a very old snap-on f70 today, and I just used some silicone grease & lube out of a tube because it was what I had. I would have use Lubriplate if I could have found some. I would definitely use some kind of light grease.

Looking For Tips On Removing Oil Filter During Oil Change

Relocation kits are great, but they usually use a standard filter, and most of the time it's the equivalent of a motorcraft FL1A or fram PH8A, Baldwin B2, Donaldson P550008, etc. (the old standard ford filter). That filter is designed to allow oil to bypass at 7-9 psid, and if that is within the...

Looking For Tips On Removing Oil Filter During Oil Change

Which you would think would be alright because the oil will drain out when you pull the plug, but since they decided to mount it upside down, that necessitates use of an anti-drainback valve inside the filter. Guess what that does. Mounting a spin on oil filter upside down is an idea that *****...

So the Snap On guy came by the shop today...

I have some, but not a lot. I do have some 3/8 and 1/4 metric sockets in snap-on, but more in c-man. None at all in 1/2". I have only one set of s/o metric wrenches - OEXM. No metric taps or dies, but everything in standard. When my dad was turning wrenches he worked for a Detroit Diesel...
