who has a metal lathe in their garage??

This is my Sheldon. When I bought it I thought I was getting a steal but quickly realized it was well abused. It is my first lathe and it taught me a lot with fixing it up, creating new parts etc. I would like to sell it and get a combo machine or a lathe that has a t-bar table as part of the...

Loft that a friend built, how safe?

If you are asking the question, seems you have your doubts. If that is the case, nothing can be made too strong. My opinion, that "c" channel that runs accross the front needs support on both sides. Either from the top or the bottom. And it needs to run all the way accross. It does not look...

    Privacy Screen around AC Unit

Usually the manufacture will have recommendations as to how close objects can be to the unit. Be mindful of that. Like Jack says, make sure you do not restrict airflow into or out of the unit.

    Garage Wall Color scheme?

rwhite692, I like how you think. I am in the process of planning my garage revamp and I was considering something simular.....but different. A forest green/gray/orange/gray/white scheme. maybe to complicated, maybe the green will be to dark but all my cabinets are green/black or green/orange...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I am addicted to this thread. I am surprised though, that given the diversity of people, their professions and walks of life I see here, we have not seen two things; a hydraulic vise and a vise that was custom/home made.

    Source for Casters

I have used www.reidsupply.com. Most of the stuff I have bought from them, including casters where clearance items. One other note, I had the same issue you did, needing independent swivel locks and brakes.....they are expensive. I used the HF casters and "modified" them to have brakes and...

    Socket organization

Well......I did but one of the guys I worked with liked them so much i sold them. Never pass up making a buck on something you make....you can always make it again better. I used longer pegs (and narrower) and cut the ends at 60 deg angles. I then printed the labels on clear film, really...

    Socket organization

So here are some pictures of all three versions. The 3/8in example is the finished version. As you can see, I keep 12 points on one side and 6 points on the other. The 1/4in & 1/2in examples are not finished.....lazyness mostly but also because they house the "duplicate" sockets that I keep...

    Socket organization

One other note, I was wrong on the paper size on the 1/2in socket, its 11/17. I do these drawings in MS Visio, I attached the visio version in the zip file below. I can put them in other formats if someone has a suggestion.

    Socket organization

Sorry Bilko1, each circle represents the diameter of a socket, (standard craftsmen accept for 1/2in which are impact sockets). The cross hatch in the middle of each circle represents where you drill the hole for the dowell pin. 1/4in dowell for the 1/4in sockets, 3/8in dowell for the 3/8in...
