Anyone on here into cigars scotch and other libations?

I'm kind of a n00b when it comes to the stogies but I've enjoyed a few different ones from Acid. Scotch, I can take or leave. I'll certainly sip on it when provided but don't purchase it to keep on hand. Bourbon and rye are my tasty treats. A glass of Makers Mark is a wonderful thing. Been...

    a mild rant

upon finding this site several months ago, I (naturally) have been spending a bit more time in my garage. Built some storage and some workbenches and have done a fair bit of cleaning up (rather throwing stuff out - it is still a mess). I finished my winter project in the house and decided to...

    flip flops and garage safety

just what I needed to see right before supper  I'm guilty of wearing them more than I should when I'm working out in the garage, but I'm going to rethink that now. here's hoping for a quick recovery

Got hosed by Menards today. Bleh.

I wonder how much smoke ran from John Menard's ears when Tony Stewart left his IRL team, went to NASCAR, and had Home Depot slapped on the side of his car for 10 years

    What's your weekend project???

go eat corned beef & cabbage and drink irish beers at the nearby catholic church :beer2: and if I'm not too tuned in after that, I'll probably lay the last of the tile in my dining room. Got that cut last night.

Where to find a structural engineer?

I'm an SE... but I'm halfway across the US and not licensed in PA  there are a few around here that work out of their houses, so it should not be an issue if you call the house. Those are the ones that do a fair amount of the residential work here. In my early days as a steel detailer, I...

    Periodic Lubrication of overhead doors?

to clarify - by track, I meant the one on the opener itself, that the guide slides on. Agreed, you do not lube the track the rollers roll in.

    Periodic Lubrication of overhead doors?

I purchased a kit that included grease for the track, and silicone spray lubricant for the rollers and hinges, etc, and some other stuff I can't remember. I've done it a couple times in the past 5 years. If you have a chain drive, you might want to check the slack and adjust if necessary. That...

    What's your longest running project?

my whole house  but honestly... I painted my house in the summer of 2007 - except for the chimney. Now two summers have past and a 3rd is approaching, and it's still not the same color as the rest of the house. It needed some repairs, which I did in 2008, but the painting still did not get...

What kind of paint to use on cabinets?

I just got some paint from S-W the other day that's primarily for trim or cabinets. It's self-leveling, so the brush strokes should go away once you've applied it. It seemed to work okay so far, but I think it would have been easier to apply if it was more humid. ProClassic is the product line...

    Concrete Peeling?

+1 on working it too much. Either that or they waited too long to finish it and they gave it a spray of water in an effort to get the surface workable again. Regardless, water was the issue.

Where do you store your floor jack?

+1... except mine hasn't driven in over 4.

    Storms Doors

I snagged an old, never-used storm door from my dad to put on the back door of the garage. Sometimes I have the garage door and the back door open for when I have people over so that they can come straight into the back yard without going through the house, and occasionally they bring their dogs...

    Rusty Rebar?!?

standard ASTM A615 rebar is not weldable (it is, but the weld quality is poor and therefore prohibited), but ASTM A706 rebar is. The only welding on reinforcing I see or spec is for embed plates in concrete. We don't do anything special enough with concrete to warrant it otherwise. I have seen...

What are getting done around the garage(or house) this weekend?

I've never checked what temp was comfortable, but with the kerosene heater I have, it's really only useful if it's 20F or higher. It never made it above 8 today so things will wait one more day til it can hit almost 30. I'd imagine 45F is probably about what it was the last time I worked out...

What are getting done around the garage(or house) this weekend?

 can you send 33 of those degrees to Nebraska? We'd both be at 41, which would be perfectly acceptable for me to work in! 8 degrees pretty much *****, and what's worse, that's the warmest it's been here for a week.

What are getting done around the garage(or house) this weekend?

we just got home from picking out tile samples for the dining room/kitchen and paint samples for the bathroom. It's still too cold to hang out in the garage, even with the heater cranked :( so it may be just about time to go enjoy some  and try to hide from the gf who's suffering from...

Not happy with my in floor set-up :(

From the picture, it looks like the tubing is laying directly on the insulation, correct? I could see there being an issue if your system is under the entire thickness of the garage slab. I'm pretty sure when the contractor did my dad's slab and hydronics, he placed the reinforcing, set it on...

    Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! I'm snowed in at home with my girlfriend. Too crappy to get to either her family or mine, both within 2 hours of here. In anticipation of this, I bought some lumber to build some new shelves and whatnot in the garage. I have some heat, I have materials, I have tools... and 4...
