    Made in the USA

This^ I'll spend time saying 'made in china? Ok, no thanks' and keep looking. Just gotta do it... It's really frustrating when people here sometimes have NO choice but to buy some things from Communist child exploiting China.

Great looking place Blair, nice work! To attach images, use photobucket to upload your pics, then copy that URL to your post using the yellow 'insert image' button above in the toolbar. This way, the forum doesn't actually store your pics on the site, just the URL. Don

What does "GARAGE JOURNAL" mean to you?

Came here searching for 'radiant floor' Wow, what a lot of info. And it filters out all the house and industrial installations, and focuses on garages, which is exactly what I want. I haven't posted much, as I'm new, but my garage is almost done. (maybe I should post some construction pics??)...

    Plumbing the Boiler...

Great post Jack, Thank you for that. So the options are: Set up the system with no header- but with these characteristics: 1.) maintain a 30-40*F delta across the boiler 2.) might have warm/cool spots in the floor 3.) probably a very low flow rate Or set it up as a primary/secondary with the...

    My little paradise

I love the story Phil- My grandparents were role models for me too- farmers- really good people. My granddad gave me his treasured alto saxophone a couple years before he died because of me playing in bands. It's now a treasure that I'll always keep (till I have grandkids!) Whenever I get it...

    Plumbing the Boiler...

Thanks for the messages guys, I'm just trying to wrap my head around why this is necessary on a Mod/Condensing boiler... I can understand the need to have the low loss header on a conventional boiler where you might need a bit of mix to keep the return temps high enough to avoid condensation...

    Maximum Temperature for a Plug?

Hi Jesse, They do get warm, but yours gets too hot... scary! I have one on my garage alarm, it's a black one about the same size and it only gets lukewarm. Ditch yours and replace it! Here's a link to where I got mine. http://www.aartech.ca/fps-2012-atc-frost-plug-in-ac-adapter-12vac-20va.html...

Thanks Jack, One question- does the Rinnai unit have an internal pump- so in total 2 circulator pumps in your circuit? Don

    Plumbing the Boiler...

Thanks Ron, that all sounds about right- The Grundfos pump's specs are: •Flow Range: 0-33 GPM; •Head Range: 0-29 ft; It's a powerful 3 speed pump, and I hope to use the 3 speeds to tweak the system once it's running. My 9 loops are pretty consistent in length, ranging from 225' to 250'...

    Plumbing the Boiler...

I'm setting up the plumbing for my new boiler- it's a Viessmann 100W-26 mod/con unit, connecting to my radiant floor. Some specs: floor- 2000 sq', 1/2" pex tubing 2100', spaced 12" in the grid manifolds- simple copper 1" , with 9 branches circulator pump- Grundfos UPS 26 3 speed I've done...

    My shop/barn build thread

Great shop Dan, Love the upstairs space. Wish the city didn't stick me with such a low maximum height for my new barn (same size as yours)- couldn't do an upstairs. Oh well, Good job! Don

    Pole barn wall framing

I know you guys will think I'm crazy. I didn't want to lay the 2x4's up against the poles, so I put them flat on 2' centers. I notched each end of the 2x4 by 1-1/2" with my bandsaw and nailed them in with a nail gun. Super strong, the walls don't flex one bit. Gives a great place to mount my...

picts of your in-floor heat set ups.

FSnut, very nice work. I'm just getting ready to mount my outfit, FINALLY! I think I'll use just about the same piping layout that you did for your boiler. Thanks for the pics. Don

Redneck Tig foot pedal with a SSR?

Hey sounds like a fun thing to try. Course the only big drawback is not having the 'throttle' action of the tig pedal. But anyway, try to rig it up so that the gas comes on first for about 5 seconds, maybe a 2 stage pedal? A SSR might work, but the load is pretty spiky i would imagine- a SSR...
