FYI...Good source for cheap garage cabinets

I've found some pretty good deals at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore outlets. Tons of cabinets, metal drawers, fridges, etc. for cheap. Occasionally you'll see "new" cabinets from Lowe's/Home Depot and Ikea that were pulled out of in-store displays to make room for newer stuff.

Greetings from SE Michigan / Detroit Metro

Seems like a lot of metro Detroit Michiganders (I'm one, too) are popping up, good to have you.

Opinions wanted-radial arm vs. compound mitre saws

Thanks for all the feedback, I never really considered the cabinet making aspect of the tool. I took about an hour today and dismantled it and it now resides in my garage attic. As soon as the (re)construction of my house is done I'll more than likely reassemble it once I gain some garage...

Opinions wanted-radial arm vs. compound mitre saws

I've got a 10" Craftsman radial arm that seems to be serving duty as "table" more than saw and a 12" Bosch non-sliding compound mitre that seems to be my go-to whenever I need to cut a piece of stock. I've got a folding table saw for ripping down wide or longish pieces as well. Is there any...

    Load calculations for garage/attic floor

Sistering additional 2x8's next to the original joists could get you there. Two Doug fir 2x8's of the same grade are about a 2x10 of the same grade, four 2x8's are about a 2x12. Not ideal by any stretch but it could be done. Going to a structural select grade 2x8 or lvl may bring the joist...

Call me crazy-I miss building my garage.

Thanks for the "kind offers" but, ahhhh, no :bounce:. All I'm saying is that framing a garage is a hell of a lot more satisfying than yanking weeds out of the ground or putting down sod. I've got more than enough to keep my boredom at bay, trust me!

Call me crazy-I miss building my garage.

I'm glad that it's up and I'm getting utility from it, but MAN do I miss the actual construction part of the job. Looking back there was soooo much satisfaction from raising the first wall and setting of the ridge beam. I'm doing landscaping/yardwork kind of stuff now and I can almost hear my...

    New guy, here's my refuge...

First off, thanks for the kind words. Really cool to have a place like this on the net to learn from one another. The old 20'wide by 18' deep garage was built in 1926 and was sized for the cars of the day. It was pretty much falling in on itself and the red squirrels that were squatting in...

    New guy, here's my refuge...

Didn't know this section of the forum was here until now, here's a few pix of the garage I finished building in '08. Did the design on Autocad and was built by a friend and myself after work and on the weekends (subbed out the foundation/flatwork and brick). Had fun building it, made mistakes...

    yet another newb...

Here she is. Got burned out on working on the house so I pulled up the garage project to gain a dry, red squirrel (grrrr) free place to work in. Favorite part of the whole project was yanking down the old one that was built in 1926 (I kept one piece of lumber and used it in the build of the...

Thanks for the kind welcome, much appreciated. I'll throw some photos up of the project once I get the images down to a smaller size.

    yet another newb...

Hi all-very cool site, I really wish I found it earlier. I finished building a detached three-car garage back in '08 and am getting a ton of ideas from this place. Looking forward to spending many hours this coming winter going through this site and all the posts.
