Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

Yup, that's why a finagled a 3' impact extension out of one of the trucks. One end goes on my 1/2" IR and the other takes my 3/8 impact swivels. Get someone to guide the swivels on and transmissions are out in a matter of minutes. Conversely make sure you have super super SHORT versions as well...

Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

Hell I'd just swap in the horn relay. If it gets a fuel pump running I can live without a horn on the drive to the parts store. LOL

    Tool Box Mats

While it is possible that something has changed since I bought it I just went out and measured the roll I have. It's about as dead on 18" as I can measure. It falls within the line for 18" on my Milwaukee tape so if it's off, it's not off by much.

    Reccomended purchases

An IR 1/2 air gun is hard to beat, I've had mine 20+ years and it's still going strong and the only things I can think of I couldn't break loose with it was stuff I couldn't physically get it on. Xcursion88 has a real good list there. All I would add to it is instead of the SO crimpers try the...

Amazon is going to make major push into the tool business?

Eh, laser etched sockets are a NOGO for me, especially impacts. I'll stick with my old Craftsman, Blackhawk &StrapOns I bought back in the 90's. I've ended up with a couple singles with etched markings over the years and I can't read them for **** half the time and then the markings wear off...

Now that KnurledNut has solved that mystery I'm curious what the other pair of pliers are for!

    Wrench organizer including large sizes

There are 3 different styles in that 1/4" to 1-1/4" set because the yellow and red sets only go down to 3/8, I found the black sets go down to 5/16 but they only make the 1/4 in chrome. What are you going to do?

Have a Dremel/Rotary tool & an angle grinder... Wanting a die grinder, should I go 90 degree or straight?

Depends what you're going to be doing with it. If you do a lot of cutting/grinding I'd go with the straight one. I'f you're doing more surface prep stuff with roloc abrasives & such I'd go with the 90. They're both useful, it just depends what you're going to be doing more of.

    Tool Box Mats

Guess it's a little late but for anyone else that's looking I've slowly been replacing the crappy kitchen drawer liners that came in my big box with this stuff from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753G2765/?tag=atomicindus08-20 It's not as nice as the SnapOn drawer liner but nothing...

    John Deere CS52 Chainsaw Maintenance

Ah sorry, didn't see it was a link to a sales page. In the meantime you should be able to wash the air filter, clean and gap the current plug. They're generally in the neighborhood of 0.020-0.025". You'll have to take a look at the mix screws to see if you can tune it. Some manufacturers just...

Oh I wish they were made in Taiwan, I probably wouldn't have dug 1/8" slivers of metal out of the hinge mechanism if it were. Unfortunately this was made to the west on the mainland. The finishing on it is terrible, the jaws are ground unevenly at the tip, uneven grind marks galore. They're...

My "acceptable" Crescent's showed up. Apparently "acceptable" means "obviously used and returned for refund." But the cutting faces are undamaged and only show the slightest hint of light at the tip so I guess I'll keep them. ETA: and I just noticed hecho en west Taiwan. :cautious:

Not too bad for $9. The cutters are in perfect shape and I can't see any light through them. I'm calling this one a win. We'll see how the "acceptable" pair of Crescent's are tomorrow when they get here. ETA: And they are now 48% off on Amazon, so brand new for $9.50 if anyone's interested.
