    Temorary walls

My building is 36x40, but I always seem to be running out of room. I do have a dust collection system on the tools, but it's not 100% effective at cleaning the air. I get a very light film of dust on most of the surrounding surfaces. That link I posted quoted a price of $330 for each 12x12...

    Propane Radiant Heater Install Questions

Randy - I cannot believe that is true - my house is run in black pipe and there are couplers and elbows buried in every wall and ceiling - could you imagine buying a new home with exposed gas lines? I did mine, in the walls and ceilings with black pipe. It exits through the exterior wall and...

    Propane Radiant Heater Install Questions

When you guys say no joints in the walls, you must mean a transition from flex to black pipe or from black pipe to copper, right? You have to have black pipe couplers and elbows in the walls to get to your appliances....heater, dryer, stoves etc.....

How do you fasten down trusses?

Here in NJ, I was forced to use hurricane straps. They're a 2"x4" piece of galvanized steel, pre punched for nails, with a 90 degree offset bend in the middle. Used mostly for a wood to wood connection. For concrete I'd think you could mud in a similar bracket.....

    Temorary walls

My garage has to support a number of different tasks, one of which is woodworking. Even with the dust collection system on, I can count on a thin layer of dust across everything in the garage. I don't want to put hard walls up, just in case I need to reconfigure the layout some day. I was...

which cost more for me to do?

I used a lot of Home Depot stuff on mine - The one thing I didn't use from there was the main feeder line - The heavy guage wire at HD is so stiff - same guage and composition at my electrical supply store was so much easier to work in side the panels.

Drill Dr and a few other purchases..

I'm not sure that's a new feature. My 700 series is probably 6-7 years old and you can change the wheel yourself....maybe that's a new feature on the 300 & 500 series.....

Drill Dr and a few other purchases..

I have a Drill Dr. 750 - unless it's different for the 500 series, loading small bits (like <3/16") in the holder takes a bit of practice. Otherwise it's a great tool. I don't use the different angle degrees, but I do use the split point feature.

    crushed stone help

I'm not sure of the number designation, but in NJ many of us use QP, quarry process - it's a mixture of 3/4 and smaller, plus stone dust. If compacted with a vibratory roller, like a 9 ton, your surface will be so hard that you can roll a 75,000lb truck over it with out leaving a dent. You will...

    ToolKing.com... Any good?

You know how you get an email from most retailers with the shipping info? Well get this - the other day toolking called my house to let me know they had shipped. Certainly not necessary, but I thought to myself that here's a company that made the switch from many 'bricks and mortar' storefronts...

Used radiant tube heater in Philly

This isn't mine, just passing on a good deal. I almost bought this - but I have too many projects already unfinished, and I already have a heater..... It's an industrial version, (5) 10' tubes, plus one 90 degree elbow. You can buy more elbows or 180 degree unions for $60. I spoke with the...

Easy way for adding natural light?

I put non opening windows at the 8-10' perlins. Kind of the high dollar version of what your thinking of. You get a decent amount of light - certainly enough to locate items during the day with all the doors shut. In the summer, with the doors open I can do many jobs without the lights on, but...

    Asphalt driveway thickness

I paid 9k for 5000sq ft, but that included a tear out of the old, 1 tri axel full of QP, regrade, rolled, then 3in of new asphalt.

    ToolKing.com... Any good?

I've bought lot's of tools from toolking. In fact I have a new belt sander in the mail right now. Used to have a larger retail presence, now only one storefront - I think in Denver. I have found them to have very good service. They also sell some items on ebay at even more of a discount than in...

    Garage Cost

On purpose I stopped keeping track of my build costs. The only thing I outsourced was the pouring of my floor. I didn't trust myself and friends to get 34 yards as smooth as I wanted. What I did learn on cost, was to expect 25-30% overage. I know use that percentage on all my home projects and...

    Asphalt driveway thickness

We had ours done two years ago - 3" is good for a driveway. You can go thicker, but you would need to do it in different 'coats' or stages. My guy told me when he does road work, the town inspectors or DOT will be there to insure he doesn't put more than 3 inches in each layer. If you want super...

    lighting

That's funny - I am usually the king of excess. For the two 'overlit' areas it's everything I'd hope for. The parking areas are too dark with only two lights for detailed work. But usually I'm not doing any of that back there. Each one of those fixtures has 4 T-8 bulbs. So the two work areas...

Exit pipe distance needed? for MAss. Code

M45k btu radiant tube heater is a 3" pipe. The code should be more than just distance from the exterior wall. There's distances from windows, from roof overhangs, etc.......Mine had to be 18" to stick out past my soffit overhang. Looks goofy, but it's on the rear of the building.

    lighting

Hope this helps. I mounted them about 5/8" lower than my trusses to allow for the (someday) drywall.... From far away you can see the where I wanted to overlight the work area, two areas, 18X20, with 4 lights each. One is a wood working area, the other is the bay in front of the lift, These two...
