    First Welder

Yeah, you can get a bottle of C25 filled from your local AirGas or welding supply store for $40 and a small "rental" fee. I think my last one was like $30 for the tank and all the $40 refills I wanted. I own one C25 cylinder and "rent" an Argon cylinder from AirGas.

    First Welder

HAHA! Billy, the 211 didn't exist when I started! :) But yeah, that's my goto. It's got plenty of duty cycle for non-production work on cars and roll-cages, it's portable and it works from 110v and 230v which makes it ideal for me to take to the track. In the past, I had to take my generator...

    First Welder

Actually, Hobart is made by Miller. The only difference is fewer adjustments on the Hobart and some of the Miller's aluminum parts are plastic. The bigger the welder the more similar they are but Hobart is Miller's "affordable" brand. Be careful of the Lincoln welder's offered at HomeDepot...

    First Welder

I disagree. The Miller/Hobart/Lincoln Pro 115v welders are all fine for their intended use. Flux core is a pain to work with and requires a lot of finish work to clean it up. I started with a Millermatic 175, upgraded to a 210 and now I've downsized to a Millermatic 211 MVP to make room for...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Cleaned up and got my Millermatic 210 ready for pickup by it's new owner tomorrow. Got it all cleaned up but now I need to find a buyer for my Millermatic 175... My Spoolmatic 30A spoolgun: My Spoolmate 3035: And my SGA-100 spoolgun controller: That will reduce my welding...

    Liftmaster 8500

None of my 3 8500's came with an external keypad. I've never had an opener from any company come with anything more than the wall switch and an in-car remote. I have the external keypad, the HomeLink repeater, the internet gateway and it's all awesome!

    Building a storage lift?

I'm guessing your winch is actually rated for 2000lbs rolling loads not a hoisting load. A 2000lb rated winch is probably rated for about 250lbs hoisting load and it won't have the brake on it that's necessary to keep the load from crashing to the ground if the motor fails.

how do you work on tall trucks

I use the same stool for my lifted Ford Excursion. Just fold it up and stand it on its end when you're not using it and you won't be tempted to use it as a storage shelf! :D

    Garage Re-Organization....My Turn

Since this thread has already been resurrected, I thought I'd tell you that you did a great job on the garage! Especially by documenting it for us on GJ! Now you need to make some progress on that basement and update the thread! :D

    30x50 vs 40x40?

40x50. Mine is 30x26 with a planned 30x40 addon and I'd rather have 40x50 but house location on the lot and distance to the property line forced my hand. Cars park in the front and workshop is in the back with a 14' "drive-thru" on the far bay that keeps the 3 bay "parking" side separate from...

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

Can't say enough good things about this thread. 3.5 years and 553 posts and the thread never got boring! Love all the innovation that this inspired. I have to admit, I'm going to be doing the same thing. I've got a 94" wall that has a ****** "left-over" kitchen cabinet in the corner and a...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Also gave an old set of 6 Bose speakers, an old 10" JBL powered sub and an old Sony A/V receiver to a friend to free up space in the garage. Now I need to sell my Millermatic 175 "suitcase" welder and my Millermatic 210 "rolling" welder to make room for my TIG...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Finished installing the "Power Distribution" block on my welding cart. Now the power for my Millermatic 211 DVI and my Hypertherm 380 can just be plugged into the block and I only need to run one power cable from the wall! I added a quick connector to the Hypertherm's air inlet so I don't have...

    How do you do it?

When I went to college my dad gave this advice: "Son, you have an opportunity here. You can either work your *** off for the next 4 years so you can play for the rest of your life. Or, you can play for the next 4 years and have to work your *** off for the rest of your life. The choice is...

    How do you do it?

Agreed. I started working at 11 mowing lawns and doing odd jobs after school to save money for a car. At 14 I started to caddy at the local golf course on weekends as well. At 16 I used the car to get a "better" job as a "helper" at an electrical engineering company. Learned lots about...

    How do you do it?

You can even do it with kids. It's not so much "hard" work as it is "smart" work. You have to be willing to do what has to be done to achieve your goals. Hard work is part of it, but making good decisions is the key.

    surveillance system in a garage

Stuart took the words right out of my mouth. The video surveillance system was the last thing I installed after good auto-locking garage doors, solid door jambs with solid doors and the lock sets screwed into the door and jamb with 3.5" #8 screws and motion sensing flood lights that cover the...

    How do you do it?

Well done ripperd. If that's how everyone managed their money, there'd be far fewer financial crisis, business or otherwise.
