Install garage opener & high lift conversion myself of hire out?

I had to make the same choice. For the same reason I didn't put the epoxy down on my floor I paid someone else to install the new track, the opener, the safety sensors and the door activators. TIME. And it's work I don't enjoy. Installing my own lift on the other hand, that was fun and it...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Replace/Repaired 2 sprinklers and put on a new mailbox. I'm supposed to be doing annual reviews but I so hate the bureaucracy and the paperwork that goes with it.

An Uplifting Experience! Hoist will change my life!

Since you've worked on an outdoor lift for a commercial service company I'm curious what the risks are and the maintenance needed to keep a lift outdoors? My 7k 2-post doesn't have the capacity to put my "new" Ford Excursion up in the air and with the 4" lift and 34" tires ceiling height inside...

    small car garage lift

I've considered getting one of these to go in my middle bay. Since I've started another restoration my lift bay is fully occupied and I'm stuck doing tire & suspension maintenance on jacks... Kinda defeats the purpose of having a lift when it's not accessable and this one I could roll around...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

3 Weeks?! Hah! I've been in my new garage for 4 YEARS and I'm still not done unpacking! :dunno:

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

You are a brave soul! Mrs. LWW would notice a disturbance in the force and know immediately from 3000 miles away that I was working on the dining room table. It's a family heirloom and her ancestors would probably notify her right before the started to haunt me until her return...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Where did you get the welding cart? Is that a small compressor for the plasma? My cart is only big enough for my portable welder and my little plasma. I've got my Miller 211 DVI and my HyperTherm 380 both mounted on this one: I'm definitely going to steal your idea of mounting a pre-wired...

    small car garage lift

On a side note, how can EZ Car Lift still charge $1900-$2100 when you can get a KwikLift for $1100 or a new powered hydraulic Ranger Quick Jack for $1300? At $2k+ for the EZ Car Lift you're in traditional above ground lift territory...

I have a mid-rise lift - what transmission jack do you recommend?

Like several others, I have the HF low-profile ****** jack: http://www.harborfreight.com/450-lb-low-lift-transmission-jack-61232.html I get everything disconnected but the two top bolts, raise the jack to it's maximum height, lower the lift until the ****** is sitting on the jack, unbolt the...

To Lift or Not to Lift? That is the question.

Getting the door tracks moved up to allow for clearance is the cheap and easy part. The expensive part is buying the jackshaft openers to get rid of the ceiling mounted door openers. You can measure the track yourself and order the parts online and install it with basic hand tools for cheap...

    Battery Tender / Charger Thing

I have a 4 bank, a 2 bank, a Jr., and a single bank BatteryTender and a Schumacher I use for charging a string of spare batteries. I have 3 race cars, 3 show cars, 4 project cars and 2 "utility" vehicles plus 3 "daily drivers" so more than half of them are on a charger at any given time. I...

    Recommend shop surveillance system

The biggest problem with these low cost surveillance systems is usually not the DVR itself but the horrible cameras that come with it. Any D1 capable DVR can get good quality video with good quality cameras. My $400 D1 DVR has completely legible video, but the cameras cost $350+ EACH! If you...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Built this AirTool rack out of L channel. The female connectors weren't too expensive from HarborFreight and the brass plugs were about 30 cents a piece. I used a piece of scrap strap metal to form a hook so it could hang from the pinch weld on the back of the toolbox like a side box would...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

That is excellent! I'm going to try a re-purposed shoe rack to hold the chargers at an angle for easy access and the spare batteries can hang in open "shoe" slots.

Any auto repair shop owners here?

As has been said a few times before, a niche shop succeeds only under very limited circumstances. The only reason we're successful is because we're in an area that has one of the greatest concentrations of our "niche" in the US and we provide exceptional service at a fair price. We don't chase...

Guess what followed me home? (It's red and it spins)

^^^ This right here! My shop charges $125 to mount/balance 4 street tires. It's $300 for a "Race Job" because we index and test the wheels without the tire, find the heavy spot, index the heavy spot of the tire exactly opposite the heavy spot on the wheel which allows you to use the smallest...

    Narrow 4 post lifts?

I think the BendPak HD-9SW is the right answer here. You only have to worry about fitting 4 posts instead of 8. With the depth you have in that space you could go with TWO of them and get 8 cars in the space of only 4 and leave yourself room for a workbench or two!

I built a heavy duty "towel" bar out of cheap plumbing pipe and fixtures. Holds all my clamps nicely organized by size and type.
