    What is this "vise"?

I got it! I paid twice what I wanted to but half of what I figured it would be priced at. I bought it strictly as a conversation/display piece. It will NEVER get used in my shop or house. Some pieces ae missing and yes, one piece s broken. Doesn't affect my purpose or desire one iota. Watch...

    What is this "vise"?

Based on information I've gotten (from here, the Ford Barn, and FTE) there are some pieces missing. That said, though, what's there is extremely intriguing. On FTE (Ford Truck Enthusiasts) someone said that the Hanson shown above was made by Stowell. Or maybe visa-versa.

    What is this "vise"?

It looks like @wolfhawk73 nailed it... Thank you all for looking, considering, and responding. I'll let you know if I get it.

    What is this "vise"?

This "thing" is in an estate sale near me that starts tomorrow (Thursday; 2/5/26). I'm wondering if I should go try to buy it. I've never seen anything like it.

I have a wrench organization problem

My system exactly. I don't have enough metric wrenches to take up an entire drawer though, so my metric sockets are in that drawer also. My SAE sockets, on the other hand, take up two drawers.

I have a wrench organization problem

I doubt that these will be of use to you, but they are dirt cheap and readily available. The red one is mine at a secondary bench which saves me steps to the tool roll-arounds (which are near the main bench) and the second pic I probably lifted from the GJ.

Hey you guys pick heavy stuff up… what do I do with this thing?

@thunderskunk I've got a 12-ton bottle jack that I bought 50 years ago. That thing picked up a house, one floor joist at a time. Bottle jacks of that size are fairly common. I bet you've got a friend or neighbor who has one. This, of course, helps you to get this thing off of the ground but...

    The repurposing thread

While you're at it go ahead and put a hinge (or hinges) in the handle and have pin(s) to put into predrilled holes to hold it in the "up" position. Pull the pin(s) and let it drop down out of the way.

    Condensation in my garage

My 360x60 unheated uninsulated shop used to occasionally smell musty. I hung a cheap box fan about 7-8 feet above the floor and let it run 24/7. The shop has never had that musty smell since. This may or may not help your case. Among other benefits this didn't require any penetrations in the...

    The repurposing thread

And while we're on the subject of drill presses and repurposing, note the holes in the DP table. Those are all tapped and I have cut the heads off of bolts (the repurposing part) that screw into these holes. I rounded off the non-threaded end of them. They stick up an inch or two above the table...

    The repurposing thread

On another note; on some forum (perhaps this one but I just don't remember) I was roundly criticized for this. The poster claimed it was dangerous in that you could start the motor while the key was still in the chuck and cause catastrophe. I really can't see how this could happen. One of these...

    The repurposing thread

Sounds like (if you were to actually do this) time to hit up garage sales, estate sales, and swap meets to obtain some extra keys. Which isn't a bad idea anyway. I've kept the keys for all the drills that I've ever scrapped and keep them in a drawer. They sometimes come in handy.

    The repurposing thread

Your paper towel holder reminds me of a couple I made for my shop. First is some threaded pipe screwed together. Second is some 1/2 x 1/2 inch square tube welded together. I guess you could call these "repurposed" as they both are made out of scraps.

    The repurposing thread

I don't know for sure how you would handle it with a lathe but on both my drill presses I have the key hanging on a chain. It NEVER gets lost 'cause it's always right there. Here's one of them:

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I'm heading into town momentarily to pick up the rebalanced driveshaft and two axle seals. I looked through my stash of 8" Ford 3rd members and picked up a good one to just replace the pumpkin instead of rebuilding the one that was in it. Should be driving it tomorrow. I won't have time to...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I got the 8" Ford axles and third member out of Clarence, my 1948 Ford panel truck. Now it's time to evaluate and get parts ordered; or bought if I can find stuff locally. Third member rebuild kit and gaskets/copper washers/anything that's not included in the rebuild kit. Also axle seals and...
