    where to find welding jacket/sleeves

Many years ago I found a leather welding jacket at a swap meet. It had full sleeves and the front went down to belt line or below. Turned out it was to small for me so I gave it to a friend who fit into it nicely. I've been looking for another one in my size. I've Googled it to death. The...

I wanted to check the spark plug conditions in Clarence before leaving tomorrow for a 4-day road trip. The boots on these plugs are really really really tough to pull off of the plugs. I have one of those factory made boot pullers somewhere but can't find it. Here's my solution. 7/16" wrench...

    Safety rules

EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! I just posted this in the "Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?" thread. So if you see this twice please disregard one instance. I was going to modify a 7/16" wrench this afternoon by heating/bending it. Welding gloves and wood stove...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

Well, it's been 5 months since anyone f***ked up around here. I was going to modify a 7/16" wrench this afternoon by heating/bending it. Welding gloves and wood stove gloves were within 10' of where I was working. Did I reach for them? NO!!! I grabbed the garden variety leather work gloves lying...

Drywall thickness for 24” stud spacing

1/2" on ceiling with joists 24" OC is guaranteed to bow downward between joists over time. And not much time at that. I know from actual experience. All ceiling drywall that I've done in the past 30 years has been 5/8" with joists 16" OC. Never a problem.

    Shop bathroom

Urinals are really great for younger folks. However, for us older gents that take 10 - 15 minutes to pee we just sit down and read a magazine. Stream; dribble; stream; dribble; repeat until done. Even the prescribed pills don't let us pee a half gallon in 20 seconds like we used to do. That...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I searched and found that the "Disk Brake Caliper Tool Set" (item 40732) has been discussed on this thread several times, but it's been many years ago (like 2010 or so). I bought one of these about 15 (???) years ago. It gets used about once every 4-5 years. All it does is push the piston back...

    The repurposing thread

Took an old bbq grill brush that was worn out and made a table saw push stick. Didn't really need another one but it kept some stuff out of the landfill. All cuts on an old bandsaw that I keep around. No smoothing or finishing; just utility. Shown next to the orange "store-bought" one.

Lucky you. The only bed slats I come across look like they have been stored in a chicken shed with a leaking roof for the last 60 years.

Got 5 of these beautiful tanks today

If there's anyone in central Missouri come by my place and pick up a half dozen or so empties. I don't need them and they are in my way.

    The repurposing thread

That's just a pic I stole from the web. I don't remember where I got mine, but I do remember that I've gotten them from more than one source. You're correct about the brass ones, but I very seldom use them. For most everything I do I use steel brushes. They are incredible for cleaning dirty...

    The repurposing thread

The above is a great repurpose idea. I'm a bit lazy in my old age so I got some of these brushes that snap into a drill/driver. Yeah; I know I didn't repurpose anything but had to share in case any of you other folks are as lazy as I am.

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

I had a 1939 Buick. It's been a long time so I'm not sure I remember correctly. I think, though, that once the carb sensed air flow the starter switch quit functioning.
