Brand new USA made drill press

Heckuva deal! Up here, you'd be prosecuted for theft, stealing a Bridgeport for $500. Most beat-to-shite Series 1 will bring $1000 - $1500; later models bring $2500 - $3500 and I've seen a rescraped DRO completely tooled go for $15,000. Even going way back, I've never, ever, seen a working...

    Vintage hydraulic bench vice

Thanks for sharing. I've never seen one of those. I have a couple of Studebaker hydraulic bench vises. They originally were supposed to have the foot pump and controls. Lacking those, I hooked one up to an electric pump; not gonna get an OSHA seal of approval on that.

    Vintage drill press

So interesting to watch the evolution of the drill press from line shaft drive to electric motor. There's so much more iron and more monkey motion in that old camelback. jack vines

    Craftsman belt sander, belt adjustment.

A Dayton 3/4hp fan-duty motor should run the wheels off an old Craftsmah belt sander. Hasn't anyone noticed a belt sander doesn't start under load? There's a problem with the motor; many times, the motor is wired for 220V and someone is trying to feed it 110V. jack vines

Delta drill press in an upcoming estate auction - need help in identifying info about it

Since Delta produced that DP forever, adjustable (standard) tables are available in the used market; they're just heavy to ship. Again, produced in the millions, those DPs are thick on the ground, I'd look around for one equipped the way you want it and with a lot of accessories. FWIW, from...

    Shop Made Wooden Machinist Chests

I showed your box to another woodworker, who immediately asked the dimensions. I guestimated the carcass to be 3/4" stock and the drawers 1/2", but for the good of the order, could you post basic dimensions? Another question which occurred, with finger joints at all four corners, insuring a...

    Delta Unisaw Fence

I used a Unisaw with Unifence for many years and don't remember plywood coming away from the properly adjusted Unifence. Just asking, why would this be a reoccurring issue? jack vines

    Delta Unisaw Fence

This begs the question, why would one ever be pushing a 3/4" sheet of birch plywood sideways at the outermost end of a Unifence???? In sixty years of woodworking, I've never found that operation necessary. jack vines

    Shop Made Wooden Machinist Chests

Using finger-jointed boxes for drawers is a neat idea I don't ever remember seeing before. Obvious use of the joint, but uncommon; I like it. jack vines

    Par-X Tools

Twenty or more years ago, at Tannehill Trade Days, I came across a mint PX-1B at a good price. Problem was the event was so huge and we were parked so far away, sanity prevailed and I didn't try to carry it back to the car. jack vines

    Delta Unisaw Fence

Yes, but since the Unisaw has been produced for almost 100 years, there are many sets of take-offs lying around from those who've upgraded to more expensive aftermarket fences. I found a long set to replace the standard length ones I had. Ask around on craigslist, marketplace, OWWM...

Added Some New FV71 3/8" Snap-on Variants to My Collection

Can't know fer sure, but we've had a USAF base here since WWII. Could explain the regularity with which the FV71 show up here. Without much effort or cost, I've picked up several, including 1/2" and 1/4". jack vines

    Garage only on vacant lot

OTOH, planning and zoning requirements/regulations/restrictions can be a moving target and what was prohibited in the past may be encouraged tomorrow. What one thought he was paying a premium for back when can be gone by a stroke of the pen. What one had wanted to build but was forbidden to do...

Looking for Recommendations for (semi) Custom Piston Wrist Pins for an Air Compressor

When balancing a V-twin ICE, the assumption is both pistons weigh the same and the compression and combustion pressures above the pistons are equal. None of the above is the true with a V-twin compressor. Also for an ICE, the assumption is RPM in the 5,000 - 8,000 range. Most compressors turn...

    engine hoist for straight eight

Back when the Pontiac straight-eight was new, there were engine stands with adapters for the various long iron to attach to the side of the block in the middle. That kept the weight centered rather than cantilevered out. Today, Cummins builders do a similar mod. jack vines

7018 AC rod and Lincoln Welder on oilfield pipe

This!! I bought a trailer-load of down-hole oil field pipe to build a fence around our garden. Yes, it was magnetized. Yes, wrapping the leads around the pipe is the way to weld it. I wanted to use the fence as a supply line for the garden sprinkler and it holds pressure and works...

    FG-24 flywheel grinder

That yours moves at all hints at an easy fix. Pull out the coolant tank and pump, clean those thoroughly. A small pressure washer helps a lot. Determine whether your coolant is water based; if so, SimpleGreen or equivalent can help a lot. Clean everything you can see and then carefully swing...
