Besides sockets, ratchets what are other must have tool for auto use in your tool box

Not really. For example, you're somewhere and you see something that you don't have and it looks cheap. What I'm saying is don't buy it unless you can see a real need or use for it. Can't tell you how many things I've tossed or given away because I thought "I might need that". So, no impulse...

Besides sockets, ratchets what are other must have tool for auto use in your tool box

I have 4 x 27", 6' stacks. Haven't counted but around 100 drawers which are all used, some overflowing. Only 1 drawer with duplications/spares. OK, there are tools that I don't use every day, but the only thing in that whole array that is absolutely useless is the set of GW ratcheting OE...

Recommendations for basic car detailing (waxing) tools?

I've been painting and buffing/polishing cars for just on 20 years now. Puts me at close to 5000 vehicles. I've tried all the different polisher systems and although I do sill use a 200mm rotary (Hitachi or Makita) with twisted wool pad, that's only for the really heavy work. After that there...

    Auto led too bright?

The fact that the LED is on at all with low beam is an indicator of a wiring problem that needs to be corrected first. Once you've done that you can address the issue of the high beam being too bright for comfort, which would, ideally, involve changing the LED and resistor.

    Halogen fog light wattage question

The bulbs are H3 which were commonly used in that kind of light which had a very shallow depth and so no space for the more common inline connectors. H3 connector (standard 6.5mm blade) was on the end of a short length of wire. Standard wattage for H3 bulbs was 55 watts.

    Made in Canada/UK/Australia?

From Australia, Sidchrome is the best. Used to be all made here but now mostly made overseas in various places. Even the offshore sourced stuff is still very good and I'd rate as good as SnapOn, without the price tag. Still not cheap though. No nonsense mechanics' tools that will take a pounding...

Looking for a beginner air paint gun

That compressor is rated at 4cfm while the HF gun needs 6cfm. It will work for as long as there is a reserve in the tank, but after that the compressor is incapable of providing the air that the gun needs, unless you stop and let it refill the tank, which is undesirable. If you already have the...

    Best small toolbox

A few things.... Firstly, if you want a toolbox to last "forever", then don't muck about with junk on Ebay and Amazon. Get something that is known quality and comes with a warranty to match how long you expect it to last. For example...

    Show your new tool arrivals

All of these, plus the clip remover in the next photo for under $90AUD. Have a few King Tony tools in the box and more than happy to add more. The clip remover is pictured next to a Sunflag one, which I always thought was the best available. The King Tony actually improves on the Sunflag...

    Tinker, Tailor ....

It's a saga longer than War and Peace, but the roof is on! It's an interesting exercise, building on to an existing building when there is a boundary nearby. The original carport was aligned to the fenceline but the house isn't exactly straight. So working out how to align the new building...

    Tinker, Tailor ....

Ha! bet you all thought I'd dropped off the face of the planet. Not quite, but a combination of staffing issues in the shop and some health problems, combined with negotiations with ACT Planning meant that nothing happened for quite a while. Anyway......finally some progress. Got the basic...

    Tinker, Tailor ....

Progress continues, albeit slowly. Over the course of a couple of half Sundays the old carport is now dismantled and we're ready to start construction of the new "studio" Most of that carport was held together with screws, 50mm with square drive heads and 125mm with a hex drive head...

Anybody know anything about these SP wrenches?

I have quite a lot of SP Tools gear. Mostly spanners and sockets which I rate very highly. The SP Motorsport series are a little better again and I'd compare directly with Sidchrome. Their anti-slip design works well on both sockets ring and open end spanners - I can't recall ever rounding...

Looking for low profile socket organizer

I've been wrestling with the same problem - sockets a bit taller than the drawer. I don't want to lay them down horizontally since that will likely take up too much space. So, been thinking about some kind of angled setup. I think that this guy might be on the right track. With better...

    Tinker, Tailor ....

So.....I haven't abandoned this thread. @johnnyrep - No nothing to do with John le Carre, but a mini MI5 building? Who knows what I might create in there. :) Progress. We changed our minds on the size of the studio in order to fit a standard size made by the shed manufacturer. A little...

Pallet rack into a workbench....how to modify

Basically as above, but the pictures might help. Yeah, I know it's a mess.

    Heat Shrink Tubing storage

In my shop we use heat shrink fairly regularly and its storage has always been a problem - usually an untidy bunch of tubes shoved somewhere that it shouldn't be. I do have small sections pre-cut and stored in a plastic container, but it's the longer ones that were driving me nuts. I thought...

    Toolpro tools

There are a couple of situations when buying Toolpro is ok. - When you don't have one and you need it. NOW! - When you're an apprentice and keep losing your tools I've sampled a few of their tools and remain unimpressed. Quality and design (as noted above) depends on who submitted the lowest...

    Tinker, Tailor ....

Decent sized gums that have a habit of dropping branches without notice. Apart from being in the way that poor old garage wouldn't stand a branch dropping on it. Anyone need some firewood? Yes she's a real tailor. Designs, makes patterns and sews clothes. A skill that is beyond me. I'm...
