    Need recommendation's for cutting metal

I have that harbor freight shear and with a little tuning it works good . I've shaved 1/32 slivers off when trimming to shape , it will do me till I get the Beverly shear . On sale with coupon I picked it up for $79 . Cuts 16ga with little effort

What size for a fab table? Anything you wish you had done?

I don't have one yet but I like the separate benches you can group , maybe a pin locator to align . Biggest issue with benches is clutter , everything piles up on benches . For woodworking I have made horses and straight edges . I make the bench I need , use it and put it away when I'm done ...

I don't think that's throatless , you want a throatless shear . Look on CL for a used Beverly shear

    Need recommendation's for cutting metal

Firepower has a small plasma with compressor built in for under 1/8" . Not sure about new but used can be had for a few hundred . I have the Milwaukee electric shear but it does fight with 16ga . I use it to cut straight , sheets in half .

Looking to buy a dual role Nail Gun - Siding & Framing

Note on the plastic , mess is only true with stick guns , coil guns (as far as I know ) leave the plastic strip intact and not messy except for the continuous strip it leaves . For coil I might like the plastic over wire but the nails they shoot are different ( smaller gauge wise ) do some...

Looking to buy a dual role Nail Gun - Siding & Framing

Plastic on strip guns is a little messy and it flies around ( eyes ) paper is clipped head and I think those don't meet code for framing . Wire and plastic on coil guns , not sure , though like I said the wire sometimes sticks out and you can get cut on it . Havnt tried plastic but might go...

Looking to buy a dual role Nail Gun - Siding & Framing

I have the stick nailer and the 65ah . One thing to consider is the collation , plastic or wire . The 65 is wire and sometimes leaves the wire sticking out . So maybe someone can comment on the plus and minus of that . Also I think the stick gun uses a smaller head when you get into the 6d nails...

    120v Lincoln welders?

You can do sheetmetal. And will do most anything you need at home . Flux core is not as clean but that's about it . As most say out doors when it's windy is when flux core is needed so why won't it work indoors just as well . My local weld supplier sells flux core to the pros . bet you could...

Got called a hack today on a job by a sub contractor, who's wrong?

Common practice , sometimes the trim is t exactly the same and you end up doing that . That said I usually cut both pieces and glue the corner either tape it together if it's pre finish trim and micro pin it , then nail it to the wall . Same with paint grade but brads . But mitre is assembled...

Using a 3 phase compressor in a 1 phase shop?

Forgot about the pressure switch cost . I have 2 compressors one with a pressure switch on / off and the other with a motor starter and separate pressure both IR 5hp , one single stage 3450 and other two stage 1725 ( this is the bigger unit with the motor switch separate ) . Just replaced the...

Stiffening Floor Joists to reduce flex

Sounds like lots of overkill , your joists are fine , it's your prep , floor should min 1-1/4 " . Floors are ment to have some flex for comfort . Anyone who walks on concrete floors all day will tell you . 2x10 on 12" is better than most floors , most are 2x8 at 12' . Your deflection is between...

Stiffening Floor Joists to reduce flex

I know everybody these days use the cement backer but I don't like it as a base for considering floor thickness , it has no structural purpose like plywood . Walls yes . I still lay 1/2" ply on a 3/4" ply subfloor , trowel the floor and butter the tiles . Only that one small entry floor that...

Using a 3 phase compressor in a 1 phase shop?

If the converter doesn't start automatically that means you leave it running all day while your working . Seems like you'll wipe out the cost of the single phase motor in a couple months . ??
