    Apparently not a Fram guy!

Just sayin but I've used nothing but fram filters, for no particular reason other than they are available at the store I shop, for 20 years. My 96 s10 has 257,000 miles and going strong. My 07 accord has 156,000 miles and just getting broken in. No engine problems in 413,000 miles. I love...

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

I had a 30 x 40 slab poured for my garage last July. It is a floating slab with thickened edges. The underlying soil is clay mix so I had it dug out to a depth of 2' and replaced that with compacted pit run sand. Cost me an extra grand but well worth it. I have a 16 x 30 section with heated...

Guys in cold climates-what are you trying to finish before the freeze?

I try not to let the cold slow me down even though it gets dang cold up here in northern Minnesota. Not too far from where I live the state record low temp was set a few years back at -60f. That is not a wimpy windchill number but actual air temp. I remember insulating my house late one Feb...

How many volts at the outlet?

I just checked the motor info and it says input = 3.1 kw. If I am figuring right at 3100 watts divided by 250 volts that equals 12.4 amps. I just plugged compressor into outlet briefly and it makes a noise and tries to start and then attempts to spin but then trips breaker. Motor and the...

How many volts at the outlet?

The compressor is a Grizzly 3hp 240 volt. The original motor burned out soon after I bought it and I was pretty sure at the time that it was due to a crappy chinese motor. Replaced the motor with a Chicago Electric Motor that is labeled as 208-230 volt, and I believe 16 amps. That motor has...

How many volts at the outlet?

I will check the outlet, power supply cord and any other connections. I sure was not overworking the compressor as it was just running my framing nailer and ran about every 5 minutes and then only intermittently.

How many volts at the outlet?

The compressor outlet is on a 20 amp breaker. Breaker tripped only after compressor slowed down considerably and started chugging. This did not happen durring startup but after the compressor had been running normally for about 20 seconds.

How many volts at the outlet?

I tried my tester at the panel on the two hot wires entering the panel. My tester still measured 0. Fiddled with the tester and figured out I had it set wrong. After adjusting tester I had 247 - 250 volts on the the two hots entering the panel and between the two hots on the compressor...

How many volts at the outlet?

My air compressor motor burnt out recently after not very long of use. I checked the voltage at a standard outlet in my new garage at it read 124.5 volts. I'm not sure how to measure the 220 compressor outlet but I get 124.5 on each leg when I probe the ground and one hot. I get 0 volts when...

    Permafelt - anybody use it?

What kind of siding are you putting the 15# felt under? Are you putting directly between the siding and wall sheeting or are you making an air space with lath?

    Roof Framing Options

    I just got done framing my 30 x 40 garage. I split the 40 foot length into a a heated 16X30 section and a 24X30 non heated space. For the heated area I used 2.5" x 12" x 16' I-joists for ceiling joists. I used 2.5" x 12" x 18' I-joists for roof rafters with a 14" deep 20' lvl ridge board...

    Permafelt - anybody use it?

I am getting ready to shingle my new garage and have contemplated using Permafelt synthetic felt as an underlayment. The product info states that it can survive 180 days of exposure without breaking down. Since I am shingling this by myself it will take me a while to get it all done and normal...

    Best cordless screw driver?

I will second the advice to get an actual corded screw gun. I love my old 18v makita but if you have a lot of screws the corded screw gun saves a lot of time. It is about 2x faster than a cordless is even in high range. Nice and quite too.

What air filter do you guys prefer?

Fram is junk? Man I wish I would have known that 15 years ago when I started using Fram oil and air filters exclusively on my 96 s10 2.5l 4 cylinder pickup. It has 251,000 miles on the clock and runs like a champ on the original engine. Changed the oil with old school valvoline every 3k. I...

new detached garage, wire size question

I am building a 30 x 40 detached garage. I will be trenching in a feeder from my house panel to a sub-panel in the new garage which is a one way distance of 280 feet. I will have a 16 x 30 heated section in this garage and this will be my workshop - table saw, air comp, dust collection...

First oil change on a new car

I had this same dilema when I purchased my 07 honda accord 4 cylinder. The manual very specifically stated to not change the oil until the maintenance minder said so. When I got to 5,000 miles the maint minder said I was at 30% oil life. I changed the oil anyway and have changed it ever since...
