    Delco bench grinder

I see an overheated start winding. It has shorted turns and will smoke up because it is effectively a transformers shorted secondary winding. Seeing it is the last 2 coils added to the stator I would have removed it and reassembled the motor and test run it after giving it a hand spin start...

Hot glue gun that doesn't ****?

I use the cheapest guns. To minimise leakage when work is paused I pull the stick back out a tad to take pressure off the nozzle end. These guns are not designed with any feature to park them hot, often I’ll park them with the nozzle over an upturned jam jar lid. YMMV

    The,"Squirrel Cracker"

In my neck of the woods Macadamia nuts are the toughest nuts to crack. There doesn’t appear to be any hand operated system that is quick and easy available.

    The collecting bug...

Online sales normally have freight added on. I abandoned greedbay after freight rose from $9 to $34 a decade ago. If you go the distance and do cash and carry purchases often the purchase is less than freight would be to receive an item. No packing, the item becomes yours to care for and there...

Is 21mm not really a common wrench size just for sockets?

21mm fits many spark plugs, think 13/16” = 20.8mm Also corresponds to 7/16 Whitworth or 1/2 BS on English gear.

Just restored an antique grease gun

The Alemite number should be stamped into the steel body. Is it #5586? Caterpillar supplied this gun with all their tractors D2 up for years. Please tell us what the bung in the handle accesses.

J H Williams vintage hand tools

Here’s my incomplete set of Whitworth Williams Obstruction Wrenches. I’m confident that sometime W2023 will be added and who knows what there is above W2029, perhaps this continued to 3/4” It is interesting that the full sequencing increments were made which doubles the number of wrenches to...

    Socket sizes

My Dad got amusement every time a half price sale was promoted. He would buy two x.99 items and watch the cashier struggle to half one then double it followed asking for 2x.98. YMMV

Help me organize THIS drawer…,Part 2

I‘ve consolidated my collection to have all flat blade drivers to have the same color handle. Likewise the Philips are another color. Now to the layout it becomes easier with the LHS being one color in one style. From the opposite side the other color. I suspect you will have several other...

Before using evaporust on these candidates I’d give them an overnight soak in caustic soda and use a stainless steel brush to remove what has been loosened. Wash them in hot soapy water before transferring to evaporust and again on removal. Allow to dry before applying lanolin or a thin oil...
