My couth, kempt and sheveled garage

Thanks, Jay. I only have about 8' 8" of headroom to the ceiling. Add in garage doors, lights, etc, and it would not allow much verticality of the liftage. Really, with the stuff I do, my armstrong jack and a couple of stands gets it done. Not that a guy can't dream.

My couth, kempt and sheveled garage

Thanks. Clearly no serious rebuilding is done here, but that's ok. I do have a Toyota Tacoma that I park in the single bay on the right. There's about 30" of clearance between the bumper and the staircase. I would like a bit more depth, but the roof line dictated how deep we could go. Be...

My couth, kempt and sheveled garage

Just a few more furnishings of note. First is my self-propelled, zombie detection system. Very effective--I've yet to be surprised by a zombie attack. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34099&stc=1&d=1244990603 Next is my welder...

My couth, kempt and sheveled garage

We moved into this house 17 years ago. I retired last July, had a heart bypass about three weeks later (terrible family genes). Recuperating, I came across the GJ and liked what I saw. After a lot of reading and thought, I bought a Racedeck floor last fall during their Black Friday sale. I...

Huge Fathers Day Sale on RaceDeck

I finally got around to polishing up my garage to post pics. I will put a few here of the floor (Racedeck, bought last fall on the Black Friday sale). I can attest that the Racedeck folks are good to do business with. I dealt with Jennifer if I recall the name correctly, and she answered all...

How safe is something like this?

It's hard to see from the photo, but my only concern would be if there's just one piece of wood stacked on edge underneath each of the wheel supports. I still think it would be safe enough, but would prefer to see more, or even stacks of planks laid flat as has already been suggested. That's...

Does anyone own the 41" US General box from HF?

Monte406SS is right about the height with the top opened. However, I find that opening it to 70" (not full extension) is enough to actuate the unlocking mechanism and also allow pretty good access to the top compartment. So if you have that much headroom, I think you will be in decent shape...

    Ebay Trickery with Words

I tired of fooling with ebay a long time ago, but I remember how many sellers would put in their title or description something like (and I'm making one up here to make my point): "socket set--like Snap-On" when it was a piece-of-**** import set and they just wanted to drag viewers to their...

    Handyman tool kit suggestions?

Excellent start. I will suggest a few possible additions: -workbench--a B&D Workmate if you don't want to take the time to knock out something bigger, more stable and permanent. At least a big old table and some large c-clamps. You've got to hold stuff down while you work on it. -25' steel...

    Best primer for over grime

If you have places with visible stains, you might put on a coat of Kilz primer. It has a great rep for sealing in those nasty little stains that have a way of seeping out in the future to ruin your nice new paint job.

.......So, who is the official tool supplier to NASA?......

NASA did extensive testing in the 60s to determine which watch would best stand the rigors of blast-off, zero-G, wild temperature swings, and, mostly, zero pressure. The Omega Speedmaster handled it best of all, and therefore got the nod. Remember, in those days there were no quartz watches...

    broken wheel lock

Reading this thread has got me thinking about a suggestion I was told or read long ago and wondered about since. In the collective wisdom of this group, do you think it a good idea to put a drop of oil or dab of grease on each wheel stud when changing or rotating tires? It should help keep...

    Project "Truck Shop" underway

It's been a long thread (and a longer build), but I'm betting you think it's all worth it. I sure would be. Enjoy.

    Sandbag's intro and garage.

Welcome Sandbag. Nice set up--you have all the basics and a good start on a very sweet shop. Regarding the GFC outlets, there are folks on this board who are light years more knowledgeable than I, but it's my understanding that all outlets downstream of a GFC are also covered. You might put a...

We finally got an offer accepted

Congratulations on your new home. After looking so long I bet you and your family will enjoy it all the more. And it's pretty cool that you have a nice big outbuilding to shape into your workspace plus a tractor as a first project.

    Tricks for removing splinters?

I'm in with the little tweezers with a built-in magnifier. I bought a cheap one over twenty years ago (for the princely sum of one dollar and change), and use it nearly every day I go into the shop. It's especially useful now that my eyes want to focus further out than they used to.

    To Texture or Not...

I will weigh in against textured walls also. I don't even like it on the ceiling. Dust and spatters are bad enough, cobwebs even worse.

    Finally Done!!

It's all good. I really like the big hanging cabinets--so easy to sweep under.
