Post signs that declare i have video cameras watching you an my property or not ?

I have a good alarm system in my house and garage, good locks on everything as well. If someone did break in, they'd have 10 minutes to get what they want before the cops showed up. I say no to the signs, however I do have signs in my yard from the security company. I really need to have a few...

    Left Over Hardware

I keep all of my newer leftover hardware in marked plastic baggies in plastic bins so I can find them quick by size. I also have a spackle bucket of hardware that goes back 40 years of wrenching. That coughs up real gems all the time. I do need to pour it all out and throw out the utter ****...

Water leaking behind the gutter - please help

I would say that the shingles have to be further over the gutter than they are. Slip a piece of plastic flashing under the starter course and see if it gets better. Mine leaks too on one side and the fascia needs to be replaced.

Thinking about going through "stuff bankruptcy"

I'm at the same spot.. thinning out years of ****. I bought a 10' x 14' shed which comes next week. This will get the yard & garden things out of my way and I can make better "keep or toss" decisions. I have things like spackle buckets of used hardware I've had for 30 + years, most of that will...

    Old craftsman box

If it can be grabbed (if someone else hasn't yet..) for $125, all the better. My similar box-stack is from 1980 and all red, that has to be from around 1975 or earlier. Sure as heck solid as they come. Bob

What's The Name Of This Feeler Gauge

Bingo, you got it! Some sets come with a pull scale that hooks onto the feeler strip and the shim has to have a certain pound of pull to it. I was waiting for a post that had the inverted piston in it! Bob

    Left hand drill bits?

Left hand drills were generally made for screw machines, where work could be done on a part from both ends at the same time. It eliminated the need to stop the spindle. Try MSC or McMaster-Carr for them. Screw machine drills are shorter than standard jobber length drills and are also available...

    please...let go of my nuts

Freeze-Off, nothing like winter for freezing your nuts off. I've always been an advocate of the "blue wrench", but not for under dashboard applications. Sometimes a localized Bernzomatic torch will do the trick, I keep old asbestos siding shingles around to use as a shield. If you have an air...

    Header Wrap: White or black?

Most of the wrap material kits I've seen have been a tan color. It gets crapped up soon enough and will get darker. There are color coatings that can be sprayed on top of them.

Help - How to get a good edge to a metal box ?

You want to do what is called a "dutch bend", aka a hem edge roll. I used to watch the old timers at work do them (real Dutchmen too), definitely not something for a beginner.

    Does this weld look okay?

Great welding information here! I never heard of a weld called out as "push" or "pull", I learned them as "up" (same as push) and "down" (same as pull). Up welds are trickier but stronger. I have here a Lincoln 225 stick welder. I've built stock cars with it, fixed things on trucks and cars...

Floor drains or sloped floor better?

The correct terminology for masons to pitch a floor for drainage is called "fall". A 1/4" in a foot is extreme, an 1/8" should do it. I knew of a stock car racer that had his new garage all formed out for a dead level floor, when he came home, the mason contractor told him that he was lucky to...

    New from Long Island, NY

I ran into this forum from the Automotive Forum site. As a garage owner I feel right at home. I'm located in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. I'm into model cars, old cars but am between hotrods at this time. Always looking for a '61-'68 Chevy Belair with a good body, drivetrain not important. Bob
