Which service cart should I get?

This is a very good rule. I wish more people would follow it.

Snapped off a bolt head today

Do you have access to an oxy/acetylene torch? Heat is a mechanics best friend when it comes to rusty bolts. Even a little propane or mapp gas torch might help.

Which service cart should I get?

I think if you go to the "Let's see your tool box...." thread, he has pictures of the contents in their. As for service carts, I'm with nissan_crawler. I have a SO KRL1022 and I move it where I go. If I need something portable, I have a SO tool try the fits nicely in my bottom drawer. I'm 23...

    Whats Your Favorite Tool?

    1. Snap-On 4-way angle head wrench set. Nothing better for getting at hydraulic lines. Also the only company with 30 and 60 degree angles rather than 15 and 60. 2. Fluke meter. I have a 73 which gets the job done. Would love an 87. 3. Knipex 10" high leverage dykes. 4. Vaughn 4lb engineers...

    Impact sockets ?

If you don't care where they are made, I would suggest the Grey Pneumatic impact sockets. They have a lifetime warranty, seem to be readily available, and well, that is what the company specializes in so I can't see them being that bad. If USA is a must, I would go with Proto. I just got a set...

Learned something new about German tools today!

I like the offset box end they have. Too bad they aren't readily available over here. Actually that is probably a good thing, being that I would probably buy those even with all the wrenches I already have.

    Source for Estwing hammers

I really want the Estwing leather wrapped handle claw hammer, like a 16 oz or so. I can never find one though, seems most places around here only carry the blue handles.

Crowsfoot wrenches and other oddball stuff

I really want some of the half-moon wrenches as well as some crowsfeet. I have used the half-moon wrenches a couple times for things like starters and hydraulic pumps. For as big as some of the machines are, the engineers at CAT still really know how to cram 5lbs of **** in a 1lb sack. I think I...

    Who likes extra-long combination wrenches?

I have some MAC XLs. They come in handy when a regular wrench just doesn't have the reach or you need just a little extra torque. I don't use them very often however. Maybe once or twice in a month.

    Flea market goodies

+1. Also keep us posted if you decide to part with any of that nice stuff. I would be next inline for the angle wrenches if nissan_crawler didn't take 'em first.

    SK Sears deals arrived

Just an observation, but all of these SK QC issues seems to come from SK tools purchased through sears. Anyone else notice this?:headscrat

Starting out tech...what brands do you guys recommend?

I'm in a school program right now as well. I'll be done in May '09 and it can't get here soon enough. Anyways, on to the tools. I have used the Snap-On discount quite a bit. It is very nice. If you don't mind using a credit card, you can go right on their student website and get what you want...

    Flea market goodies

Nice haul. I'd pay $30 just for the Snap-On angle wrenches. I love those things. What size is that giant wrench. It looks like it says Superrench on it? Williams? Hey nissan_crawler, I see you noticed the angle wrenches too, but did you catch the offset box ends.

    Attention SK lovers:

I use standard wrenches more than metric everyday. If the machine is older than say 10 years, I can pretty much guarantee half or more of the fastners are standard. I use like 10,13,16,18 commonly. Other than that it is standard or it is a metric bolt that a std. works on well, i.e. 24mm-...

These are cool... anyone know where they're made?

I like the looks of the Wiha striking cap screwdrivers. Was looking at a set from J&L for alot less than $150. Can't remember off the top of my head but I think they were around $60 for a set.

    Attention SK lovers:

"I have never cared for their combination wrenches because they feel fat around the beam of the boxed end kind of like a fat woman but then, other people might like that." Yeah, fat chicks need lovin' too.
