Epoxy garage floor is complete - results inside

Recap - Had a crappy painted floor from the previous owner - probably @15 years old. I used a Bosch hand grinder and edger to prep the floor Used Legacy HD-105 to fill spalls Used Armorclad primer - 2 gallons Used Armorclad 100% solids epoxy and topcoat Lessons Learned = - Hand grinder (the...

    Just Ordered a Epoxy-Coat Kit

Consider any spall repair / patchwork prior. Consider a primer prior to epoxy depending upon the condition of your floor / prep work. After I did a diamond grind, I only used acid etch for spot treatment (some spots showed up after wet vac.) - then neutralize acid areas, wash, wash.

Tips and opinions for fixing concrete damage prior to epoxy (pics)

I just used Legacy Industrial HD-105 for the same type of spalls you have - worked like a charm. Don't buy home depot stuff. My only advice is to put your bucket of fill material on a plastic tarp or something as you move around. As I wiped my trowel on the edge of the bucket, over time, I...

    Temperature

I am waiting for 50+ degree temperatures in order to prime then epoxy my prepped garage floor. What is the consensus regarding application temperature? The next few days will be highs of @55 degrees, but lows down to 40s in the evening. As I am doing a garage, I assume the temperature in...

    Repair holes in concrete floor

I have seen recommendations of Ardex K-15 or SD-L Quikrete 1249-5 CMP Level Finish #210 I just ordered the Legacy product HD-105...seems easy to use, versatile and I can epoxy over it. http://legacyindustrial.net/cart/concrete-repair-c-5.html?zenid=36be2489959e7d03bd2e4a1544d01a3f

Just finished applying Epoxy to my floor

Looks great - thanks for sharing! 'Fisheyes' caused by the concrete porosity? Could it have been avoided if a primer was first used?

    Spall repair

I checked with Armorclad who said NOT to use anything from retail stores. Looks like the Armorclad concrete repair product is special made. Assume the Legacy HD-110 (may have cars parking over the patched areas) would work for me as well? thanks

    Floor grind in progress

...and a short video of the edging process. Used a 4 1/2" DeWalt grinder. I was worried that I would tear up the shoe moulding. I used a less aggressive cup wheel and it worked out perfectly. Got right up to the edge, had to hit the corners with a dremel and stone wheel. As you can see dust...

    Spall repair

Is this stuff ok to use for spall repair? I have mostly 1-4" wide and @ 1/4" deep spalls. http://www.dap.com/product_details.aspx?BrandID=111&SubcatID=18 I will be applying primer and epoxy on top. Armorclad shows 'their' suggested patch product (assume same stuff?)...

    Decent Price for Epoxy?

Seems like a good price, just make sure you get good quality (100% solids epoxy - not water based). For DIY reference - standard 2 car garage...assume a high quality kit would cost @$700 includes primer, epoxy, topcoat, flecks. assume $100 for material to repair cracks, fill voids, etc This...

    Floor grind in progress

Here is a GoPro video of the Bosch and dust deputy in action in case you may be interested. You can see how fast the grind goes - likely due to soft concrete http://vimeo.com/37262718

    Floor grind in progress

Poor planning on my part...I just put the shoe molding up last month - I do not plan to remove it. I'll see how close I can get with the smaller grinder...in the end - it is still just a garage, a few nicks won't kill me.

...and done. took 1.5 hours to do that last section. Only have edges left....waiting on small grinder to arrive.

    Armor Chip

To echo Harlemga comments...I diamond ground my floor as prep, then realized that the now porous floor would likely absorb more of the epoxy. Armorclad recommended priming first and claimed that this is how they always do their floors (diamond grind then prime). So I had to order 2 gallons of...

Concrete Grinder Std Stones or Diamond?

a recommendation I got from a maker of grinding machines after calling them directly is to first use Strip Inserts on the grinding machine, then go back and use Diamond inserts - now, whether your floor requires stones or diamond is dependent upon many factors (including hardness of your...

    Floor grind in progress

Progress after 1 day - @ 3/4 done Work is not too bad Biggest challenge is 'floating' where I get high/low spots based on how the floor was layed or softer concrete areas. Works best if I apply little to no pressure and just guide the grinder. Diamond wheel looks great - will have no issue...

    Floor grind in progress

I'd give my right one for a 7" Bosch grinder with the metal shroud - really a great unit/design - just small...but the price is right.

    Floor grind in progress

After long consideration, I am choosing to grind by hand - if I run into a snag (dead grinder / going thru too many diamond wheels), I'll likely do an Edco rental. Maybe I'm an idiot - but I have the time and patience to do this by hand and save a few hundred, if all goes well. Bosch 1773AK -...

    Armor Chip

I just received my Armorclad/Armorpoxy kit. IMO, it was cheaper / about the same as other products but appeared to have better quality (final mils). I bought the kit, @$525 shipped, received it quickly in one box. I am grinding my floor now - I should be ready to spread/apply by this weekend.
