    Brake Cleaner

Lots of chemicals/solvents are dangerous and most people ignore reading the use labels. Not to play down your excellent post, but there are other things that we handle daily/weekly without regard to similar (but weaker) warnings to the tetrachloroethylene. One good example is gasoline...

    Brake Cleaner

This CRC 29 ounce red can at Menards is 18 cents per ounce (the math that counts) vs. pooterguy's 1 gallon above at 31 cents per ounce...

    New Concrete Blotchy Look

I had this lean-to building floor poured early November, 2022. The contractor is very experienced with superb reputation. He explained to me his use of higher quality spec. concrete and just a tiny bit of cold weather accellerant. Temps were near 50F for 24 hours during/after pour, then...

    Oak hardwood oiled look

Box store type polyurethanes seem to yellow a lot in my experience. I am currently experimenting to find something better. Pratt and Lambert 38 soya alkyd varnish was my go-to product until it became unobtainium. Sorry I cannot assist more.

    Ballistix Review and Testing

Would this product allow relatively easy reapplication after 5 to 15+ years if it started showing signs of wear? I am interested in the product for a maple syrup evaporator building concrete floor and will make direct inquiries as the time approaches.

    Good bypass pruners

If we are talking about hand pruners and not long handle loppers, you might check out A.M Leonard as their "Leonard" offerings are knock offs of Felco.

    Ballistix Protective Sealer/Coating

Ianagos, please explain your "mottled look" to this floor newbie with new concrete waiting for warm weather to be sealed/coated. Did the 800 grit polishing remove some of the top cement layer to expose small aggregate in some places? Is that a good thing? I can see this look being better...

    New metallic epoxy problems?

Interesting. In model railroad scenery work we use isopropyl alchohol mist to break the surface tension of ballast adhesive, causing it to lay out.

    Lug Nut / Stud Torque

Yes! I detest the idea invoked when a brake job is referred to as a "pad slap", especially in the salt belt. Pad slap seems to imply that you simply throw in new pads and neglect the rest of a complete brake job: clean hub/rotor mating surfaces, all lubed areas cleaned and re-lubed, fluid...

    Sawmill

My intent was more to introduce people to the idea that regional dialect can sometimes be confusing regarding local tree names. It's tough to "correct" a person of your hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge based on real life work. What you are doing is astounding and I love your...

    Sawmill

Not to nitpick.......ok, lets nitpick, LOL. Be careful of the nomenclature. There is tulip poplar (yellow poplar) that is in the Magnolia family. Tulip poplar is somewhat hard and is used in cabinet making. And there is the willow family that contains lots of species under the populus...

Wanted to DIY a whole-house water softener but this looks like a mess

Oh, wow! Hack job at it's best. You should post this over at the Terry Love plumbing forums. Good mix of DIYers and pros there. Apologize that I cannot add anything useful. To me it seems that the entire assembly should be removed down low and build up correctly.

22 Ton Pin Style Jack Stand

Harbor Freight is incorrect correct; https://agradetools.com/jack-stands-rating/ Edited due to M635_Guy pointing out my brain cramp. Thank you. "After ASME PASE-2014 became effective in 2015 all jack stands must be rated per pair and not per individual stand. Previously, some companies...

    Man Lift Rental

I operate and maintain a Genie TZ50/30 towable aerial lift at my work place. People die using aerial lifts, the same as with farm equipment, chainsaws, chippers, etc.. Never take for granted their potential to injure and kill. Google "aerial lift machine safety" and learn the basics (i.e...

    Sawmill

You guys have woodwork passion and this is such an enjoyable thread. However, it is no longer PC correct to call them defects. Character or beauty marks are more appropriate, LOL.

    Sawmill

I have never used it, but there is a chemical called PEG that you can soak wood cookies in that supposedly stabilizes it to prevent cracking. https://www.rockler.com/polyethylene-glycol-peg-green-wood-stabilizer

    Need air filter element help

When I Google "Kohler K321 air filter" I come up with multiple replacements with different sizes from your 6 inch O.D. by 1.75 inch height. If pictures are correct, that filter housing cover should accommodate slight height variations. I found a few with 6 inch O.D. and very slight height...

Ideas on keeping rain water out of side door? (pictures)

Ouch. Yes, based on the level of your door threshold, it looks like your garage floor is below grade. You either raise something up or you lower something down. I have lots of experience digging swales around buildings to drain the water away (it always flows to the lowest spot). As already...
