let's see your craftsman block grinders

I found this 1/2 HP Craftsman bench grinder on market place asking $30. Honest owner mentions bearings may need replacement. Is this a hard job? Is this a very good grinder or should I avoid and look for an older one? What year do you suspect these were produced? Thanks for your opinion.

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I picked up this 1/3 hp grinder on marketplace for $40. Bearings making a little noise, does anyone know the replacement bearing number needed for these models? I would expect they are sealed? Anyone ever try to re-grease the bearings or is it not worthwhile? I ask because I expect the...

Luckily I ran into another Indestro ratchet. The swivel head 3/8 2736 cleaned up real nice and I posted it at the beginning of the month. The guess from the group was it was a 1971 vintage I think. Now I ran into a 6472 that was rusted tight with a rusted frozen socket attached. Overnight...

I should have included a top down picture of my ratchet as I illustrated it above. Mine is obviously has a 3 point sector making it produced after 1971 according t above info. The ratchet looks like it was used very little in its probable 50 years due to the excellent chrome finish remaining...

My #2736 3/8 Flex head is a superbly built ratchet. There is virtually no play when one tries flexing the anvil. Clean, crisp, with what I count to be 56 teeth in the mechanism. I also own a Craftsman late model USA made and it does not compare in the close machining tolerances and loose play...

Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

Acquired this Snap On Ferret Set recently. The ratchet is dated 1947 and the sockets are 1948. I wonder if this was common to make up a set from available stock, no matter what year. The yellow handled 1/4 inch driver is not Snap On.

Any Ideas On Age Of Craftsman Wrench Set?

I apologize for assuming all wrenches were marked the same. As I took the pack of wrenches apart I found the 3/8 (smallest) wrench was a V with two horizontal lines while the other 4 had a V with two horizontal lines on each side. I guess i assumed they were all marked the same. I stand...

Any Ideas On Age Of Craftsman Wrench Set?

Sorry, new to posting pictures. These 5 open end craftsman wrenches go from 3/8 to 7/8 size wise. The wrench marking is a V with a horizontal line on each side ( -V- ) Does the wrench holder give any added age info? Thanks for any help Michael

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Picked up this Craftsman tool box at a thrift store recently. I was surprised the light amount of wear it shows and the condition of the leather handle. Outside surface rust but inside seems lightly marked.

    Cleaning vintage toolboxes?

I have used a heat gun with excellent results on all types of stickers. As you use the heat on the sticker, always move the gun around and do not hold it still in one place. Then, with a razor scrapper I am constantly testing the sticker to assess how soft it is. Thus, I am able to use the...

Advice On Dating and Restoring My Vintage Craftsman Tombstone 6520

I picked up a vintage Craftsman 6520 tombstone tool box. It has the crown metal label, which I believe is late 50 to 60's I believe, but you can correct me if not. The question I have is about the latches. It has two latches and they both have the Craftsman name pressed into the sheet metal...

Help To ID A Vintage Tool Box

I picked up this tool box at the Restore Store. What attracted me was the box, but in closer examination it also contained a Penens Ratchet with sockets. Originally caked with red paint, I was stripping off the paint and uncovered this decal emblem set below the handle. I definitely can make...
