    Dance Hall Redux

Have been working on the house and other items that need my attention including trying to get enough money to keep the projects going. Working on a 10' section at a time, all of the purlins were replaced in the last section on the South wall. Was able to frame and install windows. Put another...

Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $271.99

Re: Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $359 Since the price on these has risen to $359 and the new discount coupons spell out that we can't use them on tool chests how about the husky chest at Home Depot? On sale this week for $279 but none of my local stores have them in stock. Anyone...

    Dance Hall Redux

Had a little helper stop by. She was very interested in what was going on...for about a minute. After the first section was cleaned, used a 2" foam insulation to prevent more bugs and water, then built a 2x4 frame to mount a water proof recycled PVC panel on the top before putting up a...

    Dance Hall Redux

There has been a lot of work but not a lot to look at yet. Pulling insulation and put in the first Clerestory window on the south side. Built the frame and pulled off the siding to mount the window and just started raining as the flashing went on and rushed to put the siding back on. Here is...

    Dance Hall Redux

Looks like there have been some un-invited guests in the past. Also found a large nest of small ants by the fuse box so all that insulation will be going.

    Dance Hall Redux

It has been a little while before I was able to return to this project. Working on pulling up the dance floor. Man, this guy was serious! 7 joists per sheet and nail every inch! All ring shank so they don't pull out and a finish nail at the end of each row. Under each joist, two strips of...

    Screaming **** Garage

The first test of the the light and the switch. Found the light just a few miles away from the old garage and thought the straight arm would fit the styling perfectly. I was thinking of a red shade but didn't find one and could not bring myself to paint this one after cleaning and re-wiring...

    Screaming **** Garage

So we get to the name of the garage. Last winter, while at the old family home, I found this casting under snow, some discarded car parts and a potbelly stove, frozen into the ground. It may have come from the wood stove but I just thought is was too neat to let it sit there. At the time I...

    Screaming **** Garage

This ol' girl might have some issues, there is a sag around the window on the south side wall, rough-looking paint, and roof well past it's service-life, but a wise man once told me that 'sometimes you have put on some of the shiny stuff to keep you wanting to get the project finished.' Wanted...

    Screaming **** Garage

Welcome to the Screaming **** Garage! This charming little building is a 26' x 16', that works out to about a 1-1/2 car garage that I am guessing was built in the 30's or 40's. She has had lived some hard years, fell in with the wrong kind of critters, and added more years of general neglect...

    30X40X12 - After Fire Rebuild

Thanks for this info. As for the Fridge, I agree with the wrap idea. Have it wrapped to look like a gas pump or lube station! Way cheaper than finding and restoring an original.

New face on an old Steel Pole Building

Of Course Kev is the Man. I would love for my place to look like his (and the stuff inside ain't bad either)

    30X40X12 - After Fire Rebuild

Looks really great. I read the whole thing but forgive me if I missed it but I was wondering about the ceiling and the walls. Did you frame everything out for insulation value or was only to create the finished walls and have a cool looking ceiling? Also how was the insulation over the...

    Dance Hall Redux

The slider is a 11' x 12' door for trailer or RV. I like sliders but don't like that it has to cover the man door and half of the roll up. I like Ryan's idea of building carriage doors and the place he used is local to me. I may use the slider on the side for better access to the work area.

    Dance Hall Redux

You know, I didn't even think of that! That is a great idea! The floor it plywood that is stained and coated and mounted on some bed to get it off the concrete, 2x4 I think. I get access to the place next week. I want to put a floor up in the rafters for a loft storage area so that might...

New face on an old Steel Pole Building

I am thinking for a look something like the included pictures. This shop was built right outside of the main house and it is all you can see out of the living room, bedrooms, and off the deck so I want to have it be something worth looking at.

New face on an old Steel Pole Building

Looking for a little help with what is possible and how it needs to be done. Looking to put a vintage type façade on an 40x30 steel sided pole barn. The only example I can find is the pics from the "Party Garage" His looks real good but he lives in a much drier area. This shop is south of...

    Dance Hall Redux

I finally have the opportunity to work indoors. I am moving into an old steel pole barn that was used by the original owners to host county Square Dances for 20 years. The concrete floor is covered with removable wood panels to create the dance floor. This place needs some work. There are...

    Vintage Battery Chargers

I had to give this up because I could not drag it cross-country but it worked great.
