    Vintage Wrench Lot

So I picked up a bin full of vintage wrenches and some were interesting so I am posting them here in case anyone has any insight. I paid $10 for the lot, but some are actually kind of cool. Let me know if you have more info on them. I just got them and cleaned them up enough to see. A couple...

Will do. They are currently soaking. The ES i went to was a repeat. Back in the end of August I went and got 3/4 of an art-deco "sign" that said "Quality Hardware" - it was in 4 pieces and the bit that said "lity" was missing. So I have been using only the "Hardware" portion. Well this...

OK - I need the collective knowledge of the hive mind to tell me if anything jumps out in this bunch... I went to an ES and was going through a bin of "vintage wrenches $3 each" when the fellow running the sale saw the first interest all day and said just take the whole bin for $10. Standouts...

Sorry to drop a post that is just for humor, but this showed up on Marketplace tonight and I am not sure whether to celebrate the skills that made this happen or to run away screaming. I will let you decide. What do you do when the motor goes on a grinder, but the bearings are still good?

somewhere I have a power tool with cord that had a fold down ground pin for whether the socket had the ground pin or not. But here is another from that time period. You can actually use the cord and the ratings to sort of date the tools. This is off the top of my head so probably not...

that Thor grinder is sweet! I have seen a number of odd "ground 'em if you got 'em" plugs on power tools from the period when not all outlets had a ground pin. It is always amusing to see.

So my wife told me to run back to the estate sale where I picked up the patent yesterday and see if they still had the postcard of Thomas Edison's house because the inventor on the patent had worked with Edison at one point. Once my brain figured out it was not a trap.... I was on my way...

Thanks guys! I am (cautiously) becoming convinced that it was the original patent awarded to the inventor based on similar patent certificates of the era. I have been on a whirlwind tour of patent resources today - well beyond my usual Google and DATAMP searches for tools. I often compare the...

And here is the item that has me scratching my head. A copy (original?) of a patent from 1903 - US Patent 732,870 awarded July July 7, 1903 to H Lemp for a "self propelled vehicle". The cover of this packet looks OLD!! I have not taken a loupe to it yet, but I believe it to be all hand done...

Cruzan, you made me go look and I found sockets with the same A stamp and at least one marked RAY. I have a similar double screwdriver but it is different (and I don't know if it was original either). It does have some heavy peening marks that match other pieces in the set. Not sure when I...

I do not believe that the ratchet was originally black. I have never seen them that color. There is also a really beautiful Ray logo between the rivets that is almost hidden by the black. It really stands out on them usually.
