Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

UPDATE 08/09/25 Received a phone call from the retailer the week before last advising the replacement was on the way and expected early in the week. That week has come and gone. Swung by in person today as I was in the area, and the retailer confirmed that they don't have it. What should have...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

UPDATE 29/08/25: Retailer called, they're hoping to have a replacement 22mm sent in early next week, I'll have to wait until then to see what arrives. They claim they can't replace the hanger/holder (I assume because the replacement would be the same as the 2 yellow holders I already have...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I specifically bought a 16pce set so they'd match. I have several sets which float between workshop, house, garage and vehicles so stuff needs to match so I can ensure sets go back together. Turns out the sale price was likely because they were dropping the 72T sets in favour of the new(er) 90T...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

The 16pce 90T sets are now on the shelf in my local store, PN 86928. The new sets also have a different holder, so it appears GW/Apex have done away with the yellow design that the larger sizes fall out of when mounted vertically (eg, on a peg board). GW/Apex advised via email that the 72T set...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

UPDATE 27/08/2025: After having the set for just over a week, I got a call from the retailer saying they couldn't process because I hadn't bought it from their store and the invoice details were wrong. I'd provided the correct invoice at time of return, but the desk staff had selected the...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

UPDATE 25/08/25: A week after GW/Apex requested me to deal with the retailer for warranty (and handing the retailer the set for assessment on 19/08/25), out of the blue the GW/Apex rep has sent an additional single line email today 25/08/25 advising: "Hi _____, we do not have 9416 ...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

Aside from the fact that they're called "spanners" here and not "wrenches", the name seems fitting to me. I have been meaning to 3D print a cheesy "Snap-Off" logo for my toolbox, thanks for the reminder. What doesn't seem fitting is the flagship product of a company being moved to a cheaper...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I know what service I can get from retailers - it's usually either a refund or a replacement off the shelf. What I expect from a quality manufacturer is product support, both technical support and backing the product with service and parts. Far too many companies in Australia have exclusive...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I think all the Gearwrench I have purchased is made in China. I get a feeling something might have had wording to the effect of "made in Taiwan, finished and assembled in China". Most tools sold in Australia at reasonable prices are China/Taiwan made, you just get to choose how much mark up you...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I had a set of Kincrome sockets at a workplace, and the 3/8" ratchet broke causing me to smash my knuckles working remotely in the field. I think that's the only ratchet I have ever broken, and a quality 3/8" short handle really shouldn't break by hand without a cheater pipe. Their sockets seem...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

Just the 22mm. Never got further than being tested by hand though, none of them even touched a fastener. They're with the retailer being assessed for warranty, they didn't have stock so now I just have to wait, again.

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

That's a good buy - the sets I have seen here were all 12 point, and I work on rusty old junk so tend to stick to 6 point sockets. The only issue with the fixed ratchets is variances in anvil play. they're more consistent than the flex heads IME. From what I've seen the Quinn ratchets are made...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I also have 2x sets of 90T reversible, subjectively the mechanisms feel better quality in the hand than the 72 tooth versions. The 72 tooth spanners also differ in other ways, eg one set has jimping on one side of the shaft and the other set doesn't. The larger sets of 90T spanners are RRP...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I've seen some Toptul items but they weren't affordable, I'm not familar with KABO or Infar Gearwrench is expensive here but recently there have been >50% sales making them decent value so i stocked up on 90T ratchets and a few sets of ratchet spanners. Proximity means very little, we're also...

Gearwrench Warranty in Australia - Is Gearwrench still considered a quality product?

I contacted Gearwrench (Apex) after receiving a 16 pce set PN 9416 delivered from Total Tools with a binding 22mm ratchet spanner (wrench). For reference, RRP on this set is ~$230 AUD, they position themselves as a premium brand here. Straight out of the sealed packaging, the 22mm mechanism is...

My Gearwrench Ratcheting Wrenches and wrench with an offset.

My 72T flex head set have what I would described as jimping on one side. Packaging marked as made In China. I just received another 72T set today! Gearwrench 9416, 72T 16pce straight non-reversing. They have no jimping, the ratcheting mechanisms are more consistent overall but some do feel...

My Gearwrench Ratcheting Wrenches and wrench with an offset.

Those appear to be an older set, they changed the logo ~2017 but I don't know how long they continued to sell the ratchet spanners (wrenches) with the older logo. Do you know when you bought them? My Gearwrench stuff with minor-moderate QC issues are all from the last 5yrs, all labelled as made...

Gearwrench Locking flex head ratchet quality concerns.

It's likely this "test" doesn't mean anything; if the tolerance is "fit for purpose" anything over that is just expended machining costs for perceived quality Comparing an expensive SnapOn to a cheap Gearwrench and slagging the Gearwrench over machining tolerances is nothing but punching down...

For Australian GJs, Opinion on Kincrome Lok On Socket Sets

IMHO there's not much point to them unless you're working on stuff someone else has already destroyed. Since I ditched 12 point sockets for a 6 point set I never round bolts anymore, snapped plenty of old rusty bolts but I can't remember the last time I rounded one.
