    Honch's Projects

I picked up a few new tools and items for the shop during the Black Friday sales last fall, I bought some items to help with my projects. From Fireball tool I bought his Maximus bar clamps and T-square set. The latter was much more of want than a need, but I will say the visibility on the...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

Last fall I was walking around the house when I noticed one of the soffits on the garage looked a bit strange. After getting out the ladder I realized it was water damaged and rotting. The former owner of the house hired professional painters to do the trim just prior to us moving in. After...

    Honch's Projects

It's been a while since I have posted, same old story with work taking priority. I have done a few projects over the last few months that I wanted to share. My good friend who's truck bumpers are in this thread, finally finished his retirement home in the Upper Península last fall. The last week...

    Honch's Projects

I have a couple of small updates on the Corvette. When I brought it out of hibernation this spring, I was convinced it was going to need brakes and by the end of summer some tires. I have some very aggressive Carbotech autocross pads on the car that are not at all rotor friendly, so I took off...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

When the owner of API did his final inspection of the pool he wasn't satisfied with the coverage on the upper edge, a cosmetic issue at most. With only a few minutes to do the trim covering I am surprised it looks as good as it does and there wasn't gel coat all over the white trim and the...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

Because this was still 1/3 the cost of replacing the pool I decided to try and save some money by filling the pool from my well versus spending over 1k to have city water trucked in. After 16 hours of it filling through my house filters and some RV filters, I added to the hoses I began to regret...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

In April of 2023 we had a bad storm come through our area and during that storm one of my pool cover tracks was ripped loose. This caused the pump on the cover to fall into the pool and drain it. By the time we realized what had happened basically the following day, the damage had been done...

    Orange Peel/Poor Adhesion (Spray Can)

I have seen spray paint do that if the surface is hot, let the wheels set in a cool area (out of direct sunlight) before you take them out and paint them. If that doesn't work you probably need to start over and skip the whole WD-40 part.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

Yeah, there are gaps, used crossties are not really like dimensional lumber, they are different thicknesses, widths and lengths. We actually did quite a bit of work trying to fit different ties together which is no small task when they weigh about 200lbs each. The gaps you see are less than 1/4"...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

Thanks. What I didn't say is I was trying to not make it into a monolith in my back yard. If I were to build one on the back forty, that could potentially have new shooters it would be much taller. My wife already has plans to plant flowers around it....

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restart

The only thing the previous owner of my house recommended we look at was new windows. The windows that were in the house were wooden Pella brand from 1996 and had quite a bit of leaking. We looked at a few different companies some with "lifetime" warranties and I ended up purchasing Anderson...

I'm convinced it's the cheapest way to cut metal.

    Honch's Projects

I have not posted in over six months, my friend is in the process of building a new home and moving. He has already sold his old home and over the winter a lot of his belongings were in my shop. That along with the bitter cold kept me from having any project motivation. This April my next-door...

    Honch's Projects

Small update, work has been keeping me busy the last few weeks. Last weekend I put together two HF tech carts for my wife's cutting table. I replaced the original casters with some 3" casters, I needed to have swivels on all legs, so I bought some shorter casters to put the table at a better...

    Honch's Projects

Monday my friend was putting my trash bin in the garage and noticed one of the support rods on the mower deck was broken. As rusty as the joint was it had apparently been failing for a while. Its also apparent that the weld never had any penetration. I decided to just reweld it versus hauling...

    heli coil question

Since it’s not installed I would JB weld the hole closed, drill and tap it to the original size. Fairly easy and quick, plus it’s completely reversible if the fastener won’t hold the required torque. This would prevent the need to oversize the hole in the pan or remove it. I think JB weld has...

I did a HF case for one of my pistols a couple years ago, they are simpler and more fun than a rifle. I think this took me about an hour, it took longer to decide what to put in the case and where. Here is a link to the hot wire cutter I use. Hot Wire Cutter

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

I've done the same for years, put the 3" on a 2" spindle and either cut it with shears or spin it against the belt sander.
