Combo Wrenches: Facing Some Tough Choices

I can't go into details on what customers specifications are but there is an ASME standard for torque proof load on a wrench among other things. ASME B107.100-2002 will give you an idea of what the American Society of Mechanical Engineers feel the limits should be on how much torque a wrench...

Combo Wrenches: Facing Some Tough Choices

There are tons of details when it comes to the quality of a combination wrench. You could easily send wrenches off to a lab and have the steel properties analyzed although much more goes into it than just steel. Box end chamfer, concentricity, stamp alignment, are just a few details that are...

I can't get into the specifics of hardness but will tell you that a harder wrench is more resistant to dings, among other things.

Combo Wrenches: Facing Some Tough Choices

I can't comment on sockets as our facility isn't the one that manufactures them. All Matco, Armstrong and CM Pro's are made at our facility including other brands and YES there are differences in all of them. A simple hardness tester will give you a few details into the difference in some of...

All Danaher USA made wrenches are made at our facility including Armstrong. eBay: Craftsman wrenches, made in Japan & Taiwan

The difference in price is more than marketing strategy. More goes into a professional wrench then a shade tree mechanics wrench.....period. While different grades of steel can yield different grade wrenches, that is minimal compared to the details that are put into professional wrenches.

eBay: Craftsman wrenches, made in Japan & Taiwan

I can not speak to the differences that distinguish the products but I will tell you there is a reason the customer pays more for the professional brands, and it's not always the steel that makes a better wrench! Guys I really appreciate the offers on the japanese/taiwan wrenches. I'll be...

eBay: Craftsman wrenches, made in Japan & Taiwan

That is really interesting. I am an engineer for the facility that currently makes the Craftsman wrenches and would love to get my hands on an old Craftsman taiwan version for show and tell around the office. Anyone got one they would be willing to part with?? I'll trade you a brand new made...
