Most swivel-head ratchets are like that. Without it, it's probably difficult to place the head into the yoke. One exception is Wera's version, which is fastened and positioned with flanged bushings.

Case in point. Working under a vehicle the other day, Zeal sockets didn't play nice because of fasteners covered with undercoating. The applicator couldn't care less what he was spraying and just went wild with the gun :LOL:

This has been noted by other users in the past.
Ko-ken 1/4 drive Z-series sockets/extensions/accessories may not lock into place when combined with off brand quick-release ratchets.
There's issues even using Z-series and standard Ko-ken socketry. Prime example is compatibility between 1/4 drive...

These types of tools are not a new concept. I have a Bluepoint chain drive extension that's 1/4 female and 1/4 male on the other end. They were made in USA and offered in various styles/sizes.
There's a Japanese manufacturer called Merry that has offered them for many, many years as well...
