Great swap meet coming to San Diego

Feb 21, 22, 23 at Jack Murphy Stadium (I refuse to call it Qualcom!) http://www.big3partsexchange.com/ I usually find old Cobra books, posters, Ford emblems, old tools etc. plus it's just fun to walk around and look at all the stuff. Ray

Anyone done this for their floor?

http://www.designsponge.com/2013/12/before-after-cartolinas-end-grain-block-flooring.html Found this site and this floor looks really cool. I have an 8x27 foot area for "lounging" that I may do this in but wonder how it would hold up in the working part of the garage. Thanks, Ray

    Looking for an hour meter.....

I've done a search and found TONS of hour meters but they all require wiring into a panel etc. What I would like to find, if they're even made, is a meter that plugs into the outlet and I plug my appliance into the meter (kinda like a vacation lamp timer.) Has anyone seen anything like this...

    Programmable light switch?

For various reasons 'dusk to dawn' sensors etc will not work for the outside lights on the house or garage. Does anyone know if there are light switches with a timer function that I can, for example, have the light come on at 6pm and go off at 11pm each day? I've seen some that have a timer...

Does anyone have any experience with....

...this air compressor? http://www.harborfreight.com/2-horsepower-29-gal-125-cast-iron-vertical-air-compressor-69865.html I heard it run at the store and it's very quiet and will be enough unit for my use. I have also looked at comparable ones at HD and Lowes but haven't heard them...

    Looking for a lighting calculator...

I think that I saw a thread a year or more back with a calculator that provided light spread etc. based on height of the light (ie: in the ceiling etc.) to the floor. I've searched but am probably not using the right search terms. I'm putting six 4-inch LED's in the ceiling of our new garage...

I have some (approx 125ft) of 1awg and 2awg left over..

After pulling power to the new garage/shop I have some long lengths of big wire left over. If I cut the insulation off, I can get $2.50/lb for the wire at the scrap yard but I'd rather it be used instead. Since I'm new to this electrical thing, what would be a fair price for this amount/gauge...

    Got started on our 28x30

We finally were able to get started on our 28x30 garage/shop. First day of digging we found a big surprise....more clay then we expected which required more digging. Ended up with a 35x35x4 hole in the yard that will require approximately 80 to 100 cubic yards of compacted fill before we can...

Isn't this how it all started?

I know that I probably started out like this and it's just stayed with me. Ray

    Just picked this up Sunday.

I usually don't stop at garage sales but as I stopped for a stop sign, I happened to look over and saw that they had a small selection of tools. Figured "What the hell" and I went up. Just about everything was picked over so I asked if they had anything else that they were considering putting...

    Cool gift from my MIL

My Mother-in-law found these photos (circa 1930's) and thought that they would look good in my new garage. I think she's right! The shot with the tow truck has my wife's Grandfather seated in the truck, his older brother is on the running board and the son of the shop owner is standing. The...

I haven't been able to find these locally so I thought I'd ask you guys. I need a set of rubber or non-marring covers for needle-nose pliers. Anyone know where to get these? Thanks, Ray

    Powder coating question

We have an old metal floor furnace grate that my wife would like to powder coat. She's looked at high-temp but can't find a color that she wants so we are looking at powder coating. My question is once a metal object has been powder coated, what kind of heat can it be exposed to? Or, do we...

    Just picked these up today

The adult school that I'm attending (autobody repair/welding) got some new equipment (stuff that was being tossed like several Miller 220 MIG's, a like new tire machine and balancer, a few hundred pounds of lathe and mill tooling etc.) and we had a shop cleaning day. We cleared some wall space...

    I need some welding/welder advise.....

I'm current enrolled in a welding/autobody repair class and have found that I "need" a gas welder/cutting torch set. But, I certainly don't need or have use for a set with large cylinders. Lowes.com has the Lincoln port-a-torch set for $199 so that one looks better due to price...

Just got back from a swap meet...

Found these two NAPA cabinets at a local swap meet. Spent $25 on the pair (down from $35.) They are both the same inside and I think will clean up well. Ray
