Check out some VW sites like VWvortex, those guys do rusted hoods all the time. One BMW E30 owner painted rust or was it copper patina?

What lens is giving you that amount of distortion; surely not the ones listed.

Make sure you paint the legs though. I'm doing a red oxide paint on the legs and a bare top.
