Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

You can make a new headband. Get some Aluminum flashing... trace and cutout a new headband using your old band as a guide. Now get some vinyl sheet film in a design you like (something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016P9BXZK?tag=atomicindus08-20) and stick it to the headband. Add two...

Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

The nice thing about these Craftsman - King Seeley drill presses is the Art Deco design. Why would you want to cover that with a belt cover?

OD of ring is about 1.732 OD of belt on ring is about 1.9735. As for markings on the pulley, there is no manufacturer. All I could find is B-103.

I forgot to answer this....I don't know. It was on the motor. Since the only rung used with the Vari-Slo is the top, I measured the inner diameter and got approx 1.145 inches

Good eye! I didn't think anyone would even notice the belt sizes. Actually, I changed the AX20 to an AX19 this morning before making the RPM measurements (I didn't have an AX19 when I took the photos and had to ordered it, arrived last night)

In addition, I decided to test the Vari-Slo labeled RPM speeds to the RPM speeds I measured. I'm curious if anyone else with a Vari-Slo has done a similar comparison to labeled and recorded RPMs and how it compared to mine. As can be seen, the lower speeds are close but a little higher, as the...

So, I finished my restore of the Craftsman 150 with a Vari-Slo with the Pressman table lift. Note, it was a bench model and I had a 100 floor model. I decide to cut 4" off of the 66" column and bring it down to 62". I then used the 100's base and column with the rest of the 150 to turn the 150...

probably angle of photo, I used a digital and it is 0.189" I will not fall through, actually will not go in if ring is on bottom. The top ring keeps it equal with top of head. with no rings, it stops 1/8-1/4 inch below top About 1/2 down first page of this thread: "The Classic Craftsman Drill...

Hey Frank, Another oddity. The motor has a 1948 date (I think), but because of the extra casting in the head unit (I've never seen anyone mention that) and the 66" thicker column, I was thinking that the drill press could have been older (maybe a floor model sitting at a low traffic Sears store)...

If you really want an on/off switch on the motor, you could drill a hole in the base and add one. It looks like there is enough room. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WW3WW3F?tag=atomicindus08-20

Hey Frank, The column does seem a little thicker than the other columns I have (this is the only floor column I have though) and the other is a newer (Korean war) era 100 and the 150. It is about 1mm thick. A few more odd things about this DP other than the 66" column length. 1) the head has...

I'm not sure 48 or 49 was my guess on age. Here is a photo of the motor that came with the drill press. I think it says A4 48 but it is hard to read. It had a MSA on it too.

Thanks, I think I am going to cut 4" off to bring it to 62" (like the 150 was). It is weird that my column was 66" instead of 67". Perhaps Craftsman went from 67" -> 66" -> 62".

So, I decided to cut my column down. It is a 1949 (I think) column. However, it is 66" long, not 67". Was the column on a 150 62" long? If so, I will take 4" off instead of 5".

I believe you are correct that the Pressman can not be used with the 100 table. It would need some sort of part to add to "move" the hole out and I can not figure out how it would be fabricated. I'm not even sure if the keychuck hole would be strong enough even if an addition piece could be...

I am planning to use the Pressmate with a 100 pivoting table from my 100 (I keep it horizontal 99% time). Are you sure an adapter is needed? Isn't it just a bolt that goes through Pressmate and chuck key hole that attaches Pressmate to the table?

It is for me, so I will be repainting. :) I'll probably use the tilt table from my 100 then I tried the V-S before I bought this and it worked fine, I will probably put the V-S on my DP and keep the MSA as a backup Thanks for the info and the name of the lift. I called the guy I bought it...
