    Temporary a/c fix?

If the system is low on refrigerant, then it absolutely has a leak. No question. The system does not consume refrigerant. A system that is sealed 100% will hold refrigerant forever. How warm does your lower level get when only running the A/C on the upper level? I would think enough cold air...

    Are manifold gauges vacuum-rated?

I see a few listed on Amazon for $99 bucks. I have to imagine even the cheap micron vacuum gauges will give you a better idea of vacuum levels than standard analog manifold gauges. Plus, it's Amazon, they offer free returns if you're not happy with the product. (just don't wait longer than 30...

    Are manifold gauges vacuum-rated?

A digital micron vacuum gauge is very helpful when trying to detect if a system leaks. The resolution of an analog manifold gauge set is not fine enough to see a leak. I do automotive A/C and when my low side analog gauge shows 29.9 inches of vacuum, the system still has a long way to go...

Anybody do a warranty replacement with Gearwrench?

There was just a thread about the GW warranty process maybe a week ago. Do a search and you'll find multiple replies in that thread.

How many battery platforms are you using for power tools?

All my old junk is finally dead and I'm finally down to one brand of batteries - Milwaukee. I have no complaints about other brands. I know many companies make great tools but somehow I ended up with Milwaukee..... and now it would cost to much money to switch over to another brand. Plus...

    Simple fault code reader.

I'm not sure about vehicles that are built and sold overseas, but here in the USA, OBD2 became the standard in 1996 for all cars sold here. The "computers" in OBD2 vehicles do not put out "blinks" or "flashes". There is nothing to count. These vehicles put out "diagnostic trouble codes" via a...

    Gear Wrench warranty?

When the Gearwrench brand of ratcheting wrenches first hit the market, I bought several sets from Sears. One of my wrenches broke on the first or second use. The center ratcheting piece fell out of the wrench body with very light load. Anyway.... I simply called the phone number that was...

Is it Ok for the HVAC pan drain line connected to the plumbing vent in attic?

It's been over 30 years since I worked as a commercial apprentice in the HVAC industry..... but isn't the condensate line, and the drain pan line the same thing? In my mind, the condensate line connects to the drain pan inside the furnace/air handler/AC unit/etc. I don't know, I was a...

Is it Ok for the HVAC pan drain line connected to the plumbing vent in attic?

I don't know plumbing codes.... but the vent pipe IS the drain pipe above the highest drain level. It may not be Kosher to use the vent as a drain but rain water goes down the vent every time it rains. A little bit of water in the vent isn't really going to hurt anything, in my opinion...

    Generator size

I have the Genmax 9000 inverter generator. (7600 watts continuous) I run my 1.5 ton central AC (with MicroAir easy Start) and the rest of my house with ease. In fact, it might be a little too big for my application but that's okay. You will need an Easy Start to run the central AC with...

Was gifted a Coleman 4K generator - is it any good?

Start it up and put a load on it..... see if it does what it's supposed to do. What do you plan to run with it? Backup home power source? Electricity while camping? Etc... That is a basic generator. It's probably very loud and will always run at 3600 rpm. (no eco throttle) Most of those...

    $5 Hospital Grade Receptacles?

T The Legrand commercial grade stuff has been pretty good for me, lately. I use to be a "Leviton guy" but lately there stuff hasn't impressed me. At all.... Exact opposite of your personal experience. Weird. lol.

    $5 Hospital Grade Receptacles?

Exactly! Just like when you're converting your 1972 Mercury Marquis 4-door sedan into a 2-door pickup truck, you just cover the rear door handles with body filler. lolol The video should start at the right spot to see the rear door handle disappear. lol

    $5 Hospital Grade Receptacles?

I have 20 amp receptacle circuits in my garage for running power tools and such.... One of the receptacles that I use to plug in the block heater when I bring my diesel work truck home (during the winter) was getting to the point where it wouldn't hold the plug any more. I would plug in the...

When to best set back A/C temperatures in a house?

Yep, that's what I do.... And it's what I would do even if I didn't have a leaky old house. lol.

    Does Freon or refrigerant deteriorate?

The old "Payne" central A/C unit that was attached to my house was 39 years old when I had it replaced with a new heat/AC system. I turned it off when the contractor pulled up in my driveway the morning they came to install the new system..... 39 years old, and it was still running, and still...

Should my fridge run 23 hours out of 24? Seller says its normal

I bought two of these and they work decent for the price. I don't think they are 100% accurate because I can plug the same load into each meter (separately) and I get a slightly different reading between the two meters..... Scientific instruments they are not, but they certainly get me in the...

Should my fridge run 23 hours out of 24? Seller says its normal

I figured that was the case.... just like using a clamp meter on a 240 volt circuit, you only clamp one wire. Thanks for confirming.

Should my fridge run 23 hours out of 24? Seller says its normal

Somewhat off topic question.... With the Emporia Vue system, does it use two CT sensors per 240 volt circuit, or just one? I am trying to decide winch kit I need to buy, with either 8 or 16 CT sensors. I need exactly 8 sensors for my little house IF only one sensor is required for each 240...
