Memory failure; what is this clip used for?

I KNOW I see and probably used these before I got three in a Larsen bin box, and I know its for holding something down, the hook catches an edge, and the bent part applies direct pressure and the screw (just one that was handy, probably not the real deal) applies the pressure. But For the life...

A retrospective on two years of tool posting on GJ

So I've been watching the post count rise, and as it neared the 5 sig figure rollover, debated with myself whether it was significant as a milestone, or just another number. All in just under two years too… (- 2 days) Some may say I post too much, others seem to appreciate what I have to say...

Dykes with "H" and "tt" ???

This came up a couple of weeks ago by another member, but I can't find the post. It has me stumped as to who makes these Dykes, (I think the other tools with the marking was pliers, and I think I have another pair of something with the same markings) Basick marking is : FORGED STEEL USA tt...

Bring out your Dead! (tools) Bring out your dead!

No we won’t bury or burn them, but more like Dr. Frankenstein, resurrect it so “IT LIVES!” Not sure this has been done as an “everybody post theirs” thread, certainly lots of individual threads or threads for particular tools… The idea is, to show what do you do to resurrect a tool, hand or...

    Another "Whatzit for" thread

Picked these up today, just to test y'all! Maybe 6" long, and have a hole in the center piece under 1/4" but only just... Nope, not a mark on them for make, model or pat.

    The Outlaw Shed

OK, I’ve mentioned the “New Shed” project a number of times, and between procrastination of the restart/completion and now, I finally got (made)time to post the pics and story. The original plan was to do an “Eco friendly” build (Recycled materials as much as possible) but still have a nice...

Blue Point Question for Snap mom!

I picked these two Blue Point ignition wrenches up yesterday, and am hoping you can clue me in on how old they are? :dunno: They do match as opposite sizes are on each; so this is a pair.

    Small wind trubin vent Source?

I'm working on my new shed, and want a turbine type vent at the peak (it had a loft/attic, even though it's only 120 Sq ft). All the box stores carry are 12" or bigger which in this case is ridiculous. Does anyone know of a source for an 8" or even a 6" turbine? I just need to bleed off a...

Non-abrasive way to remove oxidation from wood?

I have an old ax handle that I plan on putting back on the ax head it came off of. I'm leaving the majority of the external "patina (it's going to become a wall-hanger) but where it goes into the head is in two pieces, and those split interfaces are also oxidized. Not good for a glued joint...

    Mfg. of Ratchet ID...

This ratchet has a strong Plvmb/Proto flavoring on the head, and sort of a Snap-On feel to the handle but I rather doubt either made it. maybe this preceded the Plvmb/Proto design and influenced it? :dunno: Both are 24 teeth. BTW this is a 3/8 drive and about 7"long overall.

Replacing the front brake calipers on the van today. and the old caliper mounting bolts had T30 torx, and the new ones had a 7mm hex... :dunno: I had one 8mm hex bit from a yard sale, but that was the only one, and damn if I did not have a single Allen wrench or key set in 7mm :wtf: several...

    Hands as tools

OK, since your hands are a pretty critical tool for working with, and bleeding at the knuckles or worse is something I've battled of and on for years, I have a question for anyone that has used "Working Hands" Hand cream by Okeeff's: How well does it work? http://www.okeeffescompany.com/...

Wow, just Wow... Need a Vise?

    Sometimes you just get lucky...

And at times like that (like today), I'd rather be Lucky than good! :bounce: I Emailed about a Craftsman DP (With terrible pics that were dark and even after "enhancement" didn't show much) I found on CL a week ago. No response for two days. and when I got it (I asked questions and for better...

Yankee (style) Push driver/drills (Bring em on!)

OK, this was brought up in another thread, and I did a search for any old threads on the subject, and didn't find any. Stanley has finally quit making these from what I can find. While Stanley no longer makes the venerable push driver. They do make a ratcheting screwdriver, but not these. So...

    Table saw upgrade

I've had my current double table saw setup for near 20 years or so, but because the saws tables were different depths I never really got the full benefit of having them all in one the way I did it. It didn't help that I'd never completed the extension I wanted to add to the front of the small...

    Refurbing a Rat.

So I pulled one of the rats I picked up this summer out of storage, and took it apart a bit to see if it was fixable. I picked this one as it's a bent handle flex head rat, and I don't have one of that breed in the daily driver stable. It didn't land there right off the bat as the flex joint...
