Can I lube my door locks and car locks with Triflow?

^^^ I have a can of this. I use it on padlocks all the time. Also it works well for small pocket calipers. As mentioned previously, be mindful of using it on keyed switches and/or anything with an electrical connection, as graphite does conduct electricity (quite well). That's why it's used to...

    Precision Screwdriver Set

I am the same way. Some people get very fussy over warranty policies even if the tool in question cost him/her $3 twenty years ago. One can never assume on the internet. The replacement blade option is something I like due to my affliction of preferring members of sets to align visually with...

What did my buddy buy me? Large metal Shear Content

Ah, I recognize that shear. It's a BFE (Best Friend Ever) branded shear. Not sure of the specific model number (probably a No. 1 BFE) They don't make them anymore. I've heard old timers tell tales of them and the size of the fish gets larger each and every time the story is told. Congrats...

    Precision Screwdriver Set

I won't say anything more about the Wiha/Wera/usual suspects, as their following is large enough as is. Something to consider (IMO): Do you want replaceable blades? Some companies offer this, some do not. One consideration of removable/replaceable tips is the option to outfit yourself with as...

    Sockets- easy read

Here is a VERY SIMILAR (RECENT) THREAD regarding easy-to-read sockets. Go with any of them if they're shared tools and are inevitably going to be abused/lost/stolen/etc. I would invite some Hansen style socket trays to the party as well, as they are the closest thing to idiot proof that I know of.

    Protectant

You could get a roll of VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitor) paper (wax lined paper available for further protection) and wrap them all up tight. VCI paper does its job best when you wrap the part/tool, put it away, and LEAVE IT ALONE. VCI paper + shrink wrap / large ziplocs + cardboard box /...

Workbench made up of portable toolboxes.

FESTOOL uses the (TANOS) SYStainer which is a "standardized" dimension for all their tools. You can get hardware & consumable sorters, dividers, etc. The audience this system serves is the mobile tradesman who works out of a van. People have gotten wildly creative with how to store their...

Let's show off our free tools/supplies!

I got TWO of these last time I got on the SO truck. He didn't "charge" me for them per se, but I have a strong feeling that they weren't free.

    Picked up some Mayhew tools.

I have a bunch of their punches, drifts, and cold chisels. It's all good stuff. Made in USA, and the price is definitely right. Fit and finish on some of them is a little rough off the shelf, but not a surprise and not a dealbreaker for the price. E.g. burrs left from machining/turning...

Cold Saw - Blue or Orange

Yes indeedy. As stated above, a true "cold saw" as known in industry is something completely different from a dry cut chop saw like the slugger or evo. The biggest difference imho that the average guy can most easily improve is the stoutness of the dry saw's base & its vise(s).

Cold Saw - Blue or Orange

IMHO The critical feature that most dry-cut saws lack (regardless of brand) is a VERY rigid base & workholding. Some are worse, but none are even close to ideal. The "secret" to making the new(er) carbide blades last (cutting steel) and make the highest quality cut possible is proper/stout...

Snap on or Knipex snap ring pliers?!??

You are correct. NOT black oxide, I was shooting from the hip.

    Sandvik ????

Sandvik made their name with (as stated above) their top tier steel alloys. Specifically... in fish hooks! Look at the logo. The fish is obvious, but what's that surrounding it? It's a hook. If a steel recipe excels at one application, chances are that it excels at others. That's why they have...

Snap on or Knipex snap ring pliers?!??

The Knipex ones that have the inserted spring steel tips are the ones you want. This is according to everything I've read and heard regarding the Knipex ones. Which finish is best is up to you (black oxide vs chrome). I don't have the Knipex set, still working with my fussy interchangeable tip...

    name that tool

Could be a VERY old and rusted stereo microscope stand. Then again... it could be a very old and rusted stand for just about anything.

I need a decent Wood Rasp?

MICROPLANE is a favorite of mine. I hardly ever touch a rasp anymore. They cut super smooth and the little texture they leave behind is easily sanded smooth. Features: coarse or fine tooth, multiple profiles, "blades/planes" snap in and out of the handle and are reversible, so you can push...
